Beauty Week: Nails

I just love doing my nails, do you? I rarely get manicures done preferring instead to do them myself. This stemmed from my student days when I couldn’t afford that kind of luxury but wanted to have lovely nails. I do them every Sunday night so that I have a new colour each week. Like my hair I try to keep things unfussy but as you’ll see below there have been some ridiculous nail ‘moments’ on Lady Melbourne.

Step 1

First things first I clean off any pre-existing polish using some cotton wool.

Step 2

Using a cotton tip I then clean up any left over polish in the hard to reach places.

Step 3

If need be I’ll trim them with nail scissors.

Step 4

This magical instrument was given to me by my sister in law who bought it in Kuala Lumpur. So I can’t tell you where to buy it but I have no doubt that you’ve seen them about before(I know I have) and perhaps you’ll have your own suggestions you can leave below. I use all 4 sides to file my nails and buff the nail bed in preparation for polish.

Step 5

Next step I put a small drop on each nail of Invite Vitamin E Oil, which is what I use on my skin as well. Only a small amount so that my nails aren’t ‘oily’ but enough that it will absorb and strengthen the bed.

Step 6

Paint and top coat. I don’t have a picture of the top coat process here(the sun went down and it was too dark) but really it’s just like painting your nails. I don’t recommend one single brand, but here I’m using Natio which I find has a lovely consistency and doesn’t chip. I also regularly use Rimmel, Revlon, Chanel and Joycos.
