Etsy purchases have arrived
Recently I posted about some purchases I’d made on Etsy and they have all arrived. This dress from Far From Here was too big but I love nothing more than wearing a pure silk dress(as I’m sure you can tell!). I’ve shortened the waist and made the shoulders sit higher- it looks as though the model in the picture is about my size so you can see the difference in my photos. All it took was a few alterations and it fits me like a glove.
I do love to wear silk because it can translate from winter to summer quite well. Although I wouldn’t probably wear a long sleeve black dress in summer, I will be able to wear this right through spring because silk is a breathable fibre making it warm in winter and cool in summer.
With all these Victorian looks I’m trying to create a modern Victorian chignon with my hair which is sort of getting there. I suppose after a few days practice I will have truly embraced nanna chic.
What I’m wearing:
Dress: Etsy
Heels: Payless shoes
Bag: Sirrico
Gloves: David Jones
Glasses: Chanel
Watch: O’Clock
I tipped out my bag to get my sunnies and then thought I’d photograph the contents. It looked like a dogs breakfast though so I rearranged a la The Cherry Blossom Girl.

ROFL… nanna chic!
Whatever, the dress looks delightful on you
Gorgeous – and I love the eyeshadow picking up on the gloves… great touch! x
I suppose that alterations are a skill that you acquired when you were making your own clothing line. Any tips on what to look for in a seamstress/tailor?
Simply fabulous Lady M, following your post of what you had brought on Far From Here I too had a browse and purchased a lovely emerald green number- hopefully it looks just as good!
Love this dress on you! The alterations look great! Thanks for featuring it on your blog.

I think I love the red ruffles the most reminds me of the painting, WHistler’s Mother from 1871. haha.
F- as I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager I’ve never used a tailor- if I can’t fix it Mother Melbourne does!
As a suggestion, I would be looking at the finish on the garments and the price. Simple things like taking up a hem shouldn’t cost a lot of money.
Hope that helps!
