Is Modiva the answer to my Shirley Temple prayers?

Long term readers of the blog will know that I have dead straight hair. If you see a wave, kink or curl it is purely artificial. They will also know that I am eternally in search of ways to get a curl or wave that will stay put. Generally I can leave a salon or the house after a DIY job with the ceramic curling iron and I’ve got roughly an hour of bounce and wave(depending on the weather of course) before it drops out.

The above photos were taken after I’d washed my hair, let it dry and had it up in a pony tail. That’s the kink you can see, not long after the photo was taken, it dropped out. So, with all that in mind I have become completely sceptical about any product that can make my hair stay curly or wavy. And yes- I’ve tried them all short of a perm.

When Elizabeth from Modiva wrote to me asking if I wanted to review her latest product I wrote back with this response:

“Hi there Elizabeth,
I am certainly interested, I am eternally in search of ways to curl and wave my hair because it is dead straight, thick and heavy. I’ve not yet found a product that can create waves and curls that don’t drop out.”

I don’t generally tend to review products but Elizabeth said it was important for me to be honest in my review(and it’s not been paid for either) which I liked, plus it fed into my vanity with the promise of a Shirley Temple mop at the end of the sartorial rainbow.

The clinker is this: there is no clip, it is simply a barrel that heats up and you wind your hair around it, using a glove to protect your hands from heat. That’s it.

When I pulled it out of the box I wondered how on earth I’d use it, and made a few clumsy attempts before declaring it useless and yet another failed attempt. I couldn’t very well walk around with a head of half kinked and curled hair so I thought I may as well use it to do the rest of my hair so I didn’t look like a wild banshee woman.

Just as Elizabeth had predicted the technique took practice, and the more I got used to wrapping my hair around the barrel the easier it became. I ended up with a head full of perfect waves….that stay put. Even Mother Melbourne who has witnessed my vain attempts over the years at curls was impressed.

I myself can hardly believe it- after a lifetime of curling irons, hot rollers, plastic rollers, blow drys and serums- this product takes all of 5-10 seconds to create the wave and its done.

If you see a woman in Melbourne walking around swishing her hair or checking herself out in any reflection- it’s me. I am completely and utterly in love with this product, not to mention my new hair.
