MSFW 2011 Day 2: Boutique

The theme of the parade for day two of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week was ’boutique’ meaning that some of Melbourne’s finest independant retailers got a chance to show their SS/11 collections. By far and away this parade is my favourite every year no matter who is showing- it’s always a really fresh point of view.

Obus were an absolute stand out for me and I was excited to see they have been inspired by one of my favourite artists, Frida Khalo. As you can see below their headpieces, colours and prints are a nod to the artists personal style but also wearable everyday pieces.

What stood out for me in this parade was the sheer amount of sunnies used in the styling, and then how absolutely gorgeous they were. My show notes tell me that accessories were done by ISSON, Moot Sunglasses, Dallas and Carlos so I’m assuming that some of the labels have used their own as well.

Gorman presented a humorous yet wearable affair with a tropicana feel and I have no doubt that Melbourne hipsters will go nuts for FAT’s flat brogues and harem pants.
