Miss Eyelash does Lady M’s lashes

“Last Christmas I did 55 people in 5 days, ” Emma Vosti from Miss Eyelash tells me as I lie there with my eyes virtually glued shut. Not glued in a nasty way, Emma is attaching between 70-80 lash extensions per eye to my lashes.

I’ve watched this trend grow and grow over the past  2 years with fascination but was quite happy to do so from afar. Attach something foreign to my eyelashes- are you crazy?!

Emma emailed me a while ago and I um’d and ah’d it over, got busy, forgot about it and then last week while I was cleaning up my inbox I re-visted her email. I hadn’t deleted it, just put it in the curious basket. Re-reading her offer for me to come in I decided to take the plunge- how bad/good could it be?

Her salon is clean and bright and doesn’t look like what I expected at all. In fact the entire experience was nothing like what I had in my mind, but I have a feeling that has more to do with Emma’s professionalism and dedication to what she does. Rather than a service that’s provided by a salon Emma only does eyelashes. That’s it. That’s her full time job.

“I would do between 30-40 clients per week, just when I think things will slow down the demand seems to grow,” Emma tells me.

“The youngest woman I’ve done was 16 before her formal, the oldest was in her 70’s. There’s really no one demographic that’s getting it done more- everyone want’s to try eyelash extensions.”

We have a consultation before she gets down to business with Emma explaining how she operates, what she uses, what I can expect and talks about after care.

Me being me, I asked plenty of questions but it did make me feel as though I was in good hands- Emma’s point of difference is that she is 100% dedicated to what she does and isn’t distracted by other treatments. She only does lashes and tells me its why she’s one of the best. Big call I was thinking as she hadn’t even been near my lashes as yet!

It’s quite a strange feeling when you have one of your senses shut off, you don’t realise how much you rely on (in my case ) your sight. So here are some of what I imagine your questions are going to be, answered in full below:

Does it hurt?

Not at all, I couldn’t feel a thing throughout, except the gel pads she’d placed under my eyes to protect my lower lashes.

Is it clean?

Yes, Emma is absolutely fastidious in what she does.

How long does it take?

Roughly one hour. Emma told me that as it’s what she does all day every day she’s become quite handy at attaching lashes and can do a full set in an hour.

How many lashes per eye does she use?

Between 70-80. I’m told that commonly 30-40 are used but the more that are used, the more natural it looks. And how do you know that she uses that many? She counts them once she’s done! On one eye she’d counted 66, so before she finished added more so that the count was exact. Emma told me that this is crucial for consistency so that when you come back she knows exactly how many lashes were attached last time.

How long do they last?

Emma tells me this really depends on after care and your lifestyle. If you exercise a lot and in turn sweat and shower they will fall out a lot quicker. Avoid using oil based products on your eyes and you should have lovely lashes for about 3 weeks. They can absolutely last much longer, but Emma says if you want to keep them looking tip top then a monthly appointment is best.

Do you like them? How do they feel?

I’m a convert- I love them! I haven’t been able to tell that I have them, I honestly can’t feel a thing. My scepticism was about how people had told me that you wouldn’t need to wear mascara, and that you’d look ‘done’ when you woke up in the morning. ‘Bah!’ I’d usually exclaimed and waived them away but after 3 days my mind has been changed.

Would you recommend Miss Eyelash and Emma?

Absolutely! I obviously don’t have any experience to compare with but I’d be more than happy to go back to her again. She was unbelievably professional and clearly passionate about what she does which put me at ease. Her work is beautiful.

They look extremely natural and Emma said that’s her signature look. “You’ll probably have people come up to you and say, ‘Hmm, have you had a hair cut? Lost weight?!’ but its all about your eyes appearing more open in a natural way.”

And it’s true. I went out for dinner that night with my girlfriends and they all said that something was different but they couldn’t quite put their finger on it…until one arrived who’s been getting her’s done for a while and took one look at me and exclaimed, “YOU GOT YOUR EYELASHES DONE!!”
