The Front Row Project

Doing my best Lana Del Rey impersonation…

Just before LMFF started Melbourne based designer Georgia McCorkill got in contact with me to ask if I wanted to be part of The Front Row project that was running on the LMFF Cultural Program calendar.

The project is a part of McCorkill’s PhD research for The Red Carpet Project, which is a design driven collaboration between designers, celebrities, stylists and publicists that uses the captivating properties of the fashion worn on the red carpet to raise awareness of environmental problems faced by the fashion industry.

Georgia created dresses for The Red Carpet Project in a spirit of activism – they are not a commercial endeavour. She created a collection of elegant, handcrafted dresses to be worn by front row guests.  Her dresses were worn for an LMFF occasion and then re-imagined for new people and purposes.

With being busy with LMFF and then my ear rendering me couch bound some days I didn’t respond properly to Georgia’s initial requests for me to wear one of her dresses, rather waltzing into her studio one afternoon on the arm of Cheryl from Businesschic.com.au to organise a dress.

It all came together rather seemlessly and Georgia altered the dress you see me wearing in the following pictures for me to wear to the Matichevski parade on the closing night of LMFF.

It was an absolute honour to be part of this exhibition and to wear one of Georgia’s dresses front row, if you’d like to keep reading you can check out her blog about the experience at The Red Carpet Project.
