3 summer hairstyles you’ll want to wear now

I do love a good hair tutorial don’t you? Most of the time I look mine up on YouTube, but there really is nothing better than learning from the best. And Adrian and the team at Oscar Oscar Doncaster are the best.

Below are three summer hair styles that I have no doubt you’ll want to try, and they can for the most part be done at home. I’ve learnt to fish tail braid courtesy of YouTube, but it never looks like it does in the photos you see below!

I’m going to talk you through that Adrian has done in these photos, but there really is nothing better than having someone do your hair for you, so I’m also going to give you the chance to win a styling session with Adrian worth $180!

Behold:

Step 1: Make friends with your hairdresser, things will never end in tears 😉

Hairstyle 1: Side pony tail with volume

Step 2: Dry off hair, Adrian has used a paddle brush here. Dry hair is always easier to style I’m told.Lady Melbourne at Oscar Oscar Salon, Doncaster

Step 3: From your natural receding lines, section off the hair on the top of your head (think of it as a rectangle shape) and back comb. Lightly spray as seen below.

Step 4: Sweep hair into side pony tail and affix with clear elastic.

Step 5: Curl ends with a Ghd iron. Spray lightly to hold.

Hairstyle 2: Half up with fishtail braid

Step 1: Using the same technique as step 3 above, create volume by back combing and secure hair into a half up do. Sweep the remaining hair into a pony tail at the nape of your neck. Start the fish tail braid from the top pony tail and incorporate the hair from the second as you go so it looks like one continuous braid.

Hairstyle 3: Ballerina Bun

Step 1: Sweep hair into high ponytail on the crown of your head. Back comb lightly to create volume.

Step 2: fold or ’round’ hair over using the tail comb as Adrian is doing in the photos. Secure in place with bobby pins.

Final step: take photos, share on social media.

Now, as with all things in life that require a level of skill, practice makes perfect. As I mostly do my own hair I do spend time practicing braiding and up-dos. If however this kind of thing isn’t your forte, Oscar Oscar are giving you the chance to win a styling session with Adrian from Oscar Oscar Doncaster worth $180.

All you have to do to win this AMAZEBALLS prize:

Leave a comment on this post telling me what you’d most love to try with Adrian- fishtail braids, the ballerina bun or a style of your own creation perhaps?

Comp ends just in time for Christmas, 22 December 2012 5pm AEST. Winner announced on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

You must be in, or available to come to Melbourne to redeem this prize!

  1. A ballerina bun for sure! I’ve had short hair to two loooooong years and it’s just now growing out long enough to do anything with.

  2. I would LOVE to have a style session helping me work out what I can do with my new fringe! It’s a challenge getting time to play with my hair and work out styles with an 18mth old at my feet! Love love love! (if my hair was long enough, the ballerina bun would be the choice!)

  3. I’d like to try the ballerina bun, it looks so elegant!

  4. My hair is currently the longest it has been in my short life, my wardrobe is eclectic and I would like to mirror this with my hair….my hairdressing skills equate to a middle parting or a side parting, would love some help making the most of my long mane.

  5. i Love your Bun, so cute on you 😉

  6. With straight hair, never used a curler or straighter, I think it is time for hairstyling. I would love to do something fancy like a braid across the top or braids across the head. I want to be able to do something fancy and different to slick straight hair everyday!

  7. Yay! Would love to learn some tricks for styling my long hair, instead of succumbing to the “oh, just cut it short” brigade. No way! Long hair forever! I love the fishtail braid…

  8. Love the ballerina bun xx

  9. Oh how I’d love the perfect ballerina bun that doesn’t make me look like a sumo!
    🙂

  10. […] 2. Oscar Oscar are giving you the chance to win a styling session with Adrian from Oscar Oscar Doncast… […]

  11. I absolutely love the ballerina bun!

  12. i would love to learn how to curl my hair. Merry Christmas everyone!

  13. I’d love to try the fishtail braid- and perhaps learn to create nice curls with a ghd.

  14. I would love to try that fishtail braid – I’d be much too scared to give it a go on my own:0

  15. Absolutely looooovvveee the fish tail!

  16. I would like to learn how to curl my hair, the right way. My hair is super straight and does not hold curls at all.

  17. I’d definitely go for the bun look if I had hair as long as yours, LM.

  18. Have loved the ballerina bun ever since SJP wore it on Sex in the City. Can never manage to do it myself! Would also love a tute on retro styling – love wearing a bouffant to go with my vintage clothes – tricky with curly hair and 2 little girls hanging off me asking me what I’m doing…!

  19. Not sure if my hair is long enough but I love the half up fishtail braid! Great photos, the styles really suit you 🙂

  20. My hair’s just grown to my shoulder for the first time in years and I’d love to do something with it but have no idea what. Something curly! At long last!
