Here’s two amazing Melbourne labels you need to know about if you don’t already: Lady Petrova and Anna Davern.
One of my passions for the blog over the years has been the opportunity to bring you local Melbourne and Australian designers, and I’m so proud to have shot both designers current collections for this blog post. When I visited both of them in their store and studio respectively I thought that they were a match made in fashion heaven, even though they’d not been paired together before.
Petrova’s website tells us:
“Lady Petrova’s Melbourne boutique resides in a hidden laneway off Flinders Lane it is truly an enchanting escape for any urban princess- a dreamland of lace, tulle, crystals and colour. The piece de resistance is her custom made doll’s house shop counter, an honest homage to every woman’s inner girl.
The boutique further expresses Lady Petrova’s belief in empowering women and supporting other female creatives. From other labels she carries, right down to the imported wooden floor- Lady Petrova ensures they are all created, designed and made by women.”
You can find both of them at home in Flinders Lane adding to their iconic Melbourne status, Anna stocking to e.g.Etal and Alice Euphemia. The Alice website has a fabulous description of her work:
“Anna Davern is a contemporary jeweller from Melbourne whose practice re-interprets the classics.
Her ‘Rocks’ range for Alice Euphemia utilises the technique of sublimation printing to create oversized fake versions of traditional styles of jewellery. It is an homage to one of the initial tenets of contemporary jewellery – a reaction against the use of precious materials. A tongue in cheek deceit of preciousness.”
