A Turkish Encounter: Mavi Jeans

Lady Melbourne wearing Mavi jeans

Mavi means ‘blue’ in Turkish and remembering the azure tones of the Mediterranean Sea and Ottoman tiled architecture, you can sense the inspiration behind the denim label that bears the name.

Blue is eternal when it comes to denim, but as anyone who’s seen a Pantone form guide will tell you, there are many shades from deep indigo to pale sky blue.

So what inspires the choice of blue denim to wear I wonder? Do you, like me, take stock of your surroundings when you think about the colour you wear?

I live in inner-city Melbourne, where there are lots of graffitied laneways, not to mention weather that can present four seasons in one day. I’ve always loved darker denim, and I’m not sure if where I live has anything to do with it, but can’t imagine getting around in white.

Mavi work with five different washes and these mid rise super-skinny ‘Alexa’ jeans from the Gold Reform collection fit into my wardrobe exactly the way I like to dress: a little bit comfy, a little bit of luxury, a slightly vintage look and, of course, a fabulous fit.

This is how I work my city into my wardrobe – how about you?

Maybe one day I’ll make it into white denim, perhaps while sailing on a yacht off the coast of Istanbul…one has to dream, no?

What I’m wearing:

Jeans: Mavi ‘Alexa’ jeans
Jacket: vintage leather number from Savers
Lace cami: St Frock
Jewellery: Ottoman Treasures
