How to mix prints

Lady Melbourne in clashing prints from Feathers Boutique and Topshop

Not that I’m an expert or anything, but I don’t mind a good, eclectic clash of prints. I’m still learning how to get it right myself but here’s a few tips I’ve learned along the way:

  • Keep the prints the same size. Checks, leopard, stripes or paisley, if you keep the size relatively the same it will look somewhat uniform.
  • Go bold with a standout oversized print or accessory. Statement necklaces seem to work with clashing prints (more is more remember) or you could wear one item where the print is oversized, like say big fat stripes. Only one piece however, otherwise the ‘statement’ element is lost.
  • Colour clash doesn’t seem to matter so much as you are already attempting a bold look, however if you keep the tone the same like I have below, it will look more subtle. More is more (have I mentioned that?!) so if you love bright colours this is a great opportunity to throw them in.

There’s just a few tips I’ve learned while trying out this look, I’ll be wearing some pretty bold clothes to Melbourne Spring Fashion Week shortly because if you can’t be experimental with your clothes at fashion week when can you?!

What do you guys think, are clashing prints a winner?
