Shopping at Collins234

Whether you attend just one race meet during the spring racing carnival or five, you’re always in need of a new frock – am I right?

Eons ago, I worked for Dangerfield & Revival in the basement of Collins234, which now houses a Dymocks book shop. So when they invited in me for a look around what’s happening in 2014, I couldn’t say no. Would I find that gem of an accessory for the races?

Well I did find some fabulous things and have hand-picked pieces I think would be perfect if attending the races or beyond.

Before we get into my discoveries, there’s a neat little competition happening for fellow bloggers.

Designed to celebrate the uber exciting fashions of the Spring Racing Carnival, Collins234 are inviting bloggers to create content for their Style to Inspire campaign via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and their blog that highlights the boutique brands housed at the arcade.

Just come in and visit Collins234, be inspired by race-day fashions, take photographs of your favourite pieces or outfits and then tag #stylecollins234 and @_collins234 in your post to make sure you’re entered. What’s in it for you?

The winning entry by a blogger will be awarded the opportunity to interview a Melbourne fashion designer and business owner currently housed at Collins234. Your interview will be published on the Collins234 website.

You will also receive a $500 Collins234 gift voucher. FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!

Also your (and their) followers are encouraged to re-post your social media posts, tag @_collins234 and #styletoinspire and they go into the running to win one of five Spring Racing Pamper Packs. They’d love to reward your dedicated followers!

All the details you need are here.

Here’s my selections…

First stop was Mollini shoes to see if I could find a pair (there is never a single pair let’s face it) to start my race day look. These gold heels were so comfortable, I could have walked out wearing them, but I spied the two-tone and mesh pair as well that were not too high that you couldn’t wear them all day.

Braun Buffel are a German luxury goods brand that specializes in leather. There were so many great options, but I managed to edit it to this selection of small to medium sized pieces for the races. You don’t want a cumbersome bag you’ll fill with everything and the kitchen sink to lug around, so an envelope, purse or if you must, a small doctor’s bag are chic options.

I had a hard time deciding between the black studded number and the very ladylike beige Kelly bag and still have my eye on both. Just like shoes one is never enough!

Oh, and where would we be without dresses?! La Bella Donna has a great selection of race-ready frocks, but they also specialise in weddings, after five and cocktail dresses.

These were my selections, with the white lace number really one of my faves. Coming into summer you’d have so many occasions to dust it off beyond the races.

Marea Bright Millinery has a pop up at Collins234 but you’ll usually find her at her boutique across the road. All pieces are completely one off and they can customise a hat to suit your outfit or specific needs. There aren’t many milliners who can still do that this time of year, so it’s a great option if you still haven’t found the perfect dress.
