With the Spring Racing carnival just around the corner, it’s time all of us who don’t mind a frock, shoes, jewels and a delightful hat to start thinking about creative interpretations of accessories, fabrication and print.

But also, for me this year, my ‘accommodating’ state is something else to consider.

My challenge: What could I wear beyond pregnancy? What works with what I already own? How can I make a statement, aside from the whopping big one that I’ll be carrying around in my belly?

A while back I wrote a piece about how well structured stretch clothes can be comfortable but flattering, and case in point is this Cynthia Rowley dress. It’s a heavy intarsia knit, meaning it has stretch, but due to the dense fabrication, will hold it’s shape. As long as I don’t wear it to death with a bump, I might even get some millage out of it post-pregnancy!

The other two pieces appealed because of their interesting detail. I love anything embroidered, and the top is another piece I’ll be able to wear post-bump with jeans or a skirt. I’m going to wear it in the next while over a black tube dress, and the jacket is well, just that, a jacket! The scalloped hem and cuff details really make it stand out, however, and I’ve already worn it with jeans and ballet flats.

I’ve been sick this week, but hopefully next week you’ll actually see me wearing them!
