The Australian Open tennis championship is the premier sporting event on Melbourne’s summer calendar. Every year, it attracts big crowds, the world’s best tennis players and hellish summer heat.
It’s renowned for it’s top notch tennis talent and it’s relentless Melbourne summery blast. In fact, the winners traditionally jump into the Yarra River to cool off after being presented with their trophies!
Yesterday was no exception with temperatures hitting 36° celsius, meaning it was essential to find somewhere to keep cool and relax. And where might you have found Lady M? In the Emirates suite, of course!
In a similar tradition to their offerings at the spring racing carnival, G.H.Mumm champagne was served along with fine wines and food. The desserts were charming – lamingtons and strawberry tarts, or you could help yourself to a cheese platter.
Most importantly it was air-conditioned, which might seem trivial to some but when it’s 36 degrees with no breeze outside, relief in the form of a cool marquee with chilled champas is a welcome option.
Did I mention the tennis?!
