Soft 70s Style

And that’s what fashion’s all about, isn’t it? An ability and preparedness to style-up an outfit with pieces of varying origins, in a way that perfectly suits your own style.

Autumn Beauty Edit

As the seasons change, does your makeup application? I like to wear a little bit less makeup in summer, particularly under a blazing Australian…

Lady Melbourne wearing a Love Me Sugar Eye Mask

Love Me Sugar

Six years ago I’d written about ‘Love Me Sugar’s’ handmade eye masks after receiving one she’d sent from Paris. Imagine my delight when the owner walked into my classroom a couple of weeks ago here in Melbourne.

Ted Baker AW 2017 Dinner

Recently I had the pleasure of dining at The Press Club for Ted Baker’s AW/2017 collection reveal. You might remember I was there last year for a luncheon, this time around, though, I was there to discuss and preview fashion, and eat caviar, and quaff superb wines, and…well, you get the picture!

Meet Sebastianella

When I look at a coin I wonder where it’s been in the world and how it ended up in my possession. Sebastianella is sourced and made in Melbourne so I know where my bracelet has its roots. Where will it end up? Only time will tell.

New Hair!

Here’s a quick update for you – I got a haircut. Not exactly front page news, but it’s great to get back to what was a signature do for me for many years, a blunt fringe.

That 70s Vibe: L’Academie

I do love the 70s for a whole range of reasons – Yves Saint Laurent launched Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche in Paris, Helmet Newton was at this peak and well there was disco, disco, disco of course!

Privacy Please

This is the ‘Moni’ dress from Privacy Please, quite the statement piece don’t you think? Something you could wear to a beach wedding, or a garden party,…

Specialty Pleaters in Melbourne | more on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

Specialty Pleaters

Without businesses like Specialty Pleaters, Melbourne wouldn’t be able to wear the mantle of Australia’s fashion capital. They provide services enabling designers and creatives access to age-old techniques, offering vital support to an industry that’s crucial to our city’s culture, both creatively and economically.

The Gold Skirt Odyssey

Gold, gold, pleats and gold. It was on a whim that I posted a picture to Instagram of a gold pleat skirt and asked if any of you knew where I could find a similar beauty to call my own.

An ongoing shoe obsession

Many times over I’ve written about how the money I put into my wardrobe mostly goes on accessories. I’ve always thought that you can have a gorgeous $5 vintage or thrift shop dress as long as it’s matched with killer heels and bag.

Wear your Baby: Babein

Let’s face it, if your baby won’t abide sleeping lying down like the rest of us, or screams if you dare put the little dote in a bouncer to make a cup of tea or put on some clothes or eat – then wearing your baby might be your only option.

Siyona: Part I

When this Siyona skirt dropped onto my desk, I was reminded how sometimes beautiful details, like the colour of a fading fence, can be all the inspiration one needs.

Veronica Beard

Veronica Beard wasn’t a label I’d heard of until I stumbled upon it recently during the Shopbop sale. But now I know about it, I can’t get enough of the natural fibres and extreme attention to detail.

Multi stripe dress from Closet London | more on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

Closet London

Closet London is a label produced entirely in its namesake city, London. We had an unseasonably warm day recently so I chased the sunshine in this frock and don’t the colours just shine!

Winter in Melbourne

I think Melbourne can be really beautiful in winter. Having lived in cold climates, I don’t think winter ever really gets that cold here (I’m sure some people would disagree).

Lady Melbourne | more on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

Classic Lady Melbourne

I like to think of this outfit as classic Lady Melbourne, in that it’s got some vintage mixed with luxury and high street pieces. Pretty much how I’ve been presenting fashion for the past nine years.

Custom made heels from 'Pretty Small Shoes,' London | www.ladymelbourne.com.au

Pretty Small Shoes!

Do you have very small feet? Is it hard to find gorgeous shoes in teeny tiny sizes that weren’t made for children?

Then I might just have found the solution for you from Pretty Small Shoes. I discovered them when and email arrived one day asking me if I’d like to try their custom service, in that you can order shoes made to fit your exact measurements.

Bella Dahl

I’d never owned a denim shirt until late last year. Ever. I got to my mid 30s without ever having the inclination to even try one on.

Dark Arts

Picked up these two pieces on Chicwish.com a couple of weeks ago, on the hunt for separates that suit life as a breastfeeding mum. It has really changed the way I consider buying clothes and never in my life have I lived in separates more.

Marsala for Winter

Last year’s Pantone colour of the year was Marsala so naturally, I’m wearing it in 2016 😉 In all seriousness I only realised after I put this outfit together that I was wearing a significant amount of the colour, but isn’t it lovely for autumn/winter?

Zac Posen Eartha Small Double Handle Bag | more on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

This skirt makes me happy!

Do your clothes make you happy? Is that even a question you’d ask yourself?! Perhaps it’s a thought that’s crossed my mind because I’ve worked in the fashion industry now for 13 years (yikes!) and I love what I do.

Olive green trench coat, more on | www.ladymelbourne.com.au

What colours don’t you wear? Olive green for Winter – who knew?!

So, I’m standing in the queue for the change room at Savers recently, which just so happens to be next to the racks of women’s coats. I saw the lapel of this trench before I pulled it out, thinking, ‘Hmmm, that trench looks interesting, got a sort of 70s vibe going on.’ My eyes travelled down the sleeve to the button which looked a nice contrast to the olive green.

Beautiful Love Candles by Eleni | more on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

Love Candles By Eleni

I love to hear stories about Melbourne based start-ups, specially when they manage to manufacture here as well. The candles are made using ecosoya wax, which is biodegradable and free from pesticides and herbicides. Using pure soy beans they contains no petroleum and then there’s the heavenly scents created from oils.
