I posted a little while ago about how much I enjoy chilling out on Carlisle St in St Kilda. This is one of my favourite shops on the strip run by Clea Stapleton.
Bagatelle is kind of like walking into someone’s wardrobe, living room and kitchen all in one, where everything is for sale. I honestly can’t tell you how ‘at home’ I felt in the shop- it is full of all the things I would look for myself when I’m out vintage or op-shopping.
If you are in the neighbourhood then check it out, there is something for everyone I’m sure.

Bagatelle is no longer located in Carlisle St. Does any one know where she moved to? I miss that wonderful quirky shop.
Thanks for the post! i’m going there next time I’m in St.Kilda
This is one shop we always visit when we come down to Melbourne. For me its so St Kilda! Cool gifts and nice staff. I only wish they had an online store as its sometimes hard to get stuff back on the plane. Ps the hand made cushions are the greatest!
What a cool shop! I could spend hours browsing.
i love this shop, it’s ever changing and always inspirational. as an ex retailer i don’t mind the sign. it’s inoffensive and should be taken as intended. sometimes it’s really hard to say no to hawkers and sales people.
regardless i wish i had the talent and enthusiasm to run such a cool shop. definately a haunt of mine and my friends.
hi lexi and meagan, yes we really are at times overwhelmed by agressive sellers. believe me we had been politely declining multiple offers every day for over a year before such a sign apparently became necessary. and you’d be surprised how many of the aforementioned still don’t see it. hopefully the poetry, bluebirds and sign for the puppehs to drink out of the little green water bowl out front balance out this well considered act. love to see you in the shop sometime.
oh Lexi – you are a woman after my own heart. (You can’t half tell I’m a retailer)!
eek yes. the sign really ruins things!! Is it really such a big deal for them to politely tell people offering consignments that it is not how they do business? I doubt that they are being overwhelmed by aggressive sellers demanding that the shop buy their wares!
p.s. really like your blog and Lady Melbourne TV. Have put you on my sidebar.
Very cool shop – will visit next time I am in St KIlda – Im not too far away (8 mins in fact!!)
I want those plates. I’m slowly gathering a mismatched collection of old china, with either cranberry or green tones. May have to convince the husband we need a family outing, I’m sure he’ll be stoked 🙂
What a shame they have that nasty little sign by the door that taints the feel of the shop.
Looks like an adorable wee shop, will definatly have to check it out next time I make it to Melbourne 🙂
I’d love a little mismatched collection of plates like though for serving cake!
