July Reading

t’s been far too long since I’ve written about my monthly reading list so as it is the beginning of the month I thought I might kick things off by mentioning what’s on for July.
It’s my turn in book club to choose a book so in an attempt to pick something no one has yet read I chose M.J. Hyland’s ‘This is How,’ which is on the new release list. I haven’t poked my nose inside it as yet but by all accounts it looks fab.

Penguin sent me two of their latest release ‘Popular Penguin’ series to mark their 75th anniversary. I haven’t read ‘Scoop’ and although I already own a copy of ‘The Go Between’ for some mysterious reason I requested another copy….I don’t have it with the classic cover so perhaps my subconscious mind decided I needed it in orange.

Then it was off to Brunettis for cafe e biscotti, really just the perfect Sunday afternoon.

  1. I’m so terribly jealous you right now! I almost tempted to start a blog so penguin will send me books. The organge covers are really stylish, as a collection they look fab. Love love.

  2. LM, a great post! I haven’t bought a book in ages due to my lack of bookshelf room, so it was lovely to see your little haul. It was my turn at picking at my book club last month and I chose Wide Sargasso Sea. I sooo did NOT enjoy it (post-modernism stuff that I really don’t like at all). Hopefully my book club pals enjoyed it though. You look very happy and beautiful in that fourth shot BTW.

  3. I’ve read MJ Hyland first book ‘How the Light Gets In’ and recommend it. Will check out her third. Thanks.

  4. Love your boots Lady! If you don’t mind me asking, where are they from?

  5. How great are the popular penguins? Light, cheap, and classics!

  6. I just bought a Kobo and have decided to read through the 100 preloaded books in alphabetical order becuase i have issues randomly picking one. Granted it’s infinately easier to read in bed with it, but i miss that tactile feel of books and that musty delecious old book smell when you get second hand ones. It certainly makes my handbag lighter though, so it got its pluses and minuses.

Your bookclub book looks good. I’ll keep an eye out for it!

  7. I’m excited about the new 75! So many titles I’d like to read…not that I haven’t a huge tottering pile of books to read forever looming over me…

  8. I have to stop myself from buying those Penguin books whenever I walk into Borders – they just look so damned pretty, I want to buy them all and display them proudly (even though I know I’d only ever read a quarter of them if I’m lucky).

    Loving those grey boots darling!

    Xx

  9. I love reading books that people recommend so will have to check these out! I’m currently reading Stieg Larsson’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’… so far so good!
I’m also a huge fan of the orange penguin classics – I love how cheap it is to buy amazing literature, and secondly I love how they look all snuggled together on my book shelves.

  10. It sounds like what i think of a a perfect sunday afternoon.
I think the Penguin books look so stylish in orange and white.
Look forward to hearing how the books is!

What would we do without books?
Personally i would die of boredom…
Right now i am reading Freakonomics…it is really an interesting read.

Maybe when finish it can be recommended.
Another book series that i just love is: Alexander Macall Smith with his Sunday Philosophy club books..their is 4 in total, and they are all extremely lovely.

    Bye from Norway – SP

  12. I love those orange Penguins. I have a heap on the bed side table. I also love the cloth bound special editions they put out last year. I have 5 and they are so pretty and I love the feel of the cloth under my finger tips when I’m reading.
