July Reading

…or brains are sexy, so says The Gardener.

I thought that was quite funny because we all read don’t we but it is nice to talk about what’s on our current reading lists. Plus for some reason I thought it was the perfect topic with which to share my new Diane Freis dress purchased recently. Not sure why I thought dress = books but when inspiration knocks on the door who am I not to answer it’s call?!

Diane Freis moved to Hong Kong from the States in 1973 and started creating her signature dresses that to me despite the date are relevant today. Think Cavalli or past Gucci collections. Anyhow her new stuff in my opinion doesn’ have the edge that the stuff from the 1970s does so that’s why I chose this dress. Mother Melbourne is not a fan at all and asked if it was possible to send it back and get a refund(!)

It’s a little bit too cool to wear it in winter but you should see more of it in the warmer months ahead.

On my reading list at the moment is:

A Dead Hand: A Crime in Calcutta, Paul Theroux
The Sitters, Alex Miller
Shoestring Chic, Kerrie Hess
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, Tom Franklin (just finished this and it is fantastic! Gripping as it slowly unfolds, I’d recommend it for reading on the train or as a holiday read)
Tucked In, Meredith Gaston (this is really sweet, it’s an illustrated adult book. It could be for any age really but as someone who LOVES to sleep I could relate to just about every page from this gorgeous book)

  1. I love how you took these pictures while seated on the couch. I like seeing the amount of fabric in the Freis dress, and the print is sweet. You really fit in with the decor, too. 🙂

  2. That dress is totally stunning! The colours are so happy and colourful.

  3. Now, don’t get us wrong…. it’s quite a nice outfit but we were wondering. Are you channeling the painting on the wall behind you or have you joined the Navaho? 🙂

  4. You’re always amazing…
    Come to Paris…

  5. Colour delicious

  6. Dress = stunning ♥ the colours…so inspiring. I recently turned 31 and for some reason I’ve decided to wear more colour rather than my usual black and neutrals. It feels good.

  7. I used to read non-stop but I stopped for some reason…it doesn’t help that I drive to work so I don’t read on public transport anymore. I realised on my holiday a few weeks ago that I need to get back into it so I just bought a few books on amazon yesterday – My Heart Wanders, Rules of Civility, Au Bonheur des Dames and One Day.

Your dress is gorgeous! De x

  8. I agree – love seeing what people are reading. I’m currently reading ‘One Day’ by David Nicholls. It took me a while to get into but I;m really loving it now 🙂

  9. From the bloglovin mini-pic, the dress looked (don’t hate me!) very nana-y. But up close it’s fantastic. I want it!

  10. Beautiful dress. The colours are amazing and I love the band around the waist to cinch it in.
