Softly, softly

I bought a whole heap of new clothes recently, and when I say new I mean brand new and not second hand or vintage. I think I will always wear vintage, but I do get stuck in a cycle some times of only looking to the op-shop, Etsy or Savers when I need something ‘new.’

Mother Melbourne gave me a jolt with a particularly candid description of how I looked one day so we went shopping and bought 3 new dresses, plus I did some online hunting around and bought some stuff on sale at Asos. This dress is one of my choices and I bought it because quite simply, it’s something I would never normally try on. I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone in terms of a purchase because I knew I’d be able to accessorise it with my some of my favourites. And I really love this dress!!

Here’s to more modern times.

What I’m wearing:
Trench: Zara
Dress: Asos
Necklace: Turkish jewellery shop
Boots: Senso Diffusion
Clutch: Vintage
Ring: Diva

  1. I have to say, one of the *best* thing about bloggers is seeing a real wardrobe in action. I’ve seen this necklace over and over on your site – every time it looks a little different and ALWAYS brings a smile to my face.

  2. You look divine. Nice touch with the booties ♥

  3. You have made the dress look fantastic.

  4. I adore your necklace!!! The whole outfit is lovely 🙂

  5. Always listen to Mother Melbourne! But of course, you don’t have to admit you do.:-)

  6. Thanks for dropping by. =) I really admired that you soldiered on, thanks for that.

  7. Yay for Mother Melbourne! Love this outfit. I must say that, much as I’ve adored your blog for years, the period after your hurt your ankle was less inspirational than usual. I put it down to your injury, but got a little tired of seeing the same baggy vintage dresses (the blue one) over and over. Gorgeous colour, but a little heavily featured. This and the last few posts makes me feel like you’re completely back. Missed you!

  8. Now you have to tell us the description! Only mothers can ever be so cruel with wardrobe assessments.

  9. Personally the clutch is the highlight.

  10. Love the trench coat and the nail colour, such a good combination with the dress. Think zara does pretty good trench coat, self bought one from them last year as well.

So great to hear that you are getting back into yoga 🙂 Just made a yoga video with hair inspired from your ‘cooling off’ post…and maybe I could also use this hairstyle in my next one. 🙂

  11. Where is the Turkish jewellery shop? Coming to Melbourne this weekend!

  12. I love this! I wasn’t sure about the dress at first, but it looks fantastic on. The orange detailing is beautiful.

  13. Hi girl…
I heard the same thing a while back from my mother…
Just like you and mother Melbourne… we went shopping, and I too stepped out of my comfort zone…

Now wearing these clothes I feel like a new woman.
You have to try something new every once in a while not to get boring:)

You look great girl, and the dress I want as well…
Greetings from Norway, and have a nice day….
    Bye

  14. I always have about $200 worth sitting in my cart or saved items and when pay day rolls around I buy a few. It’s a bizarre addiction!

Funnily enough I didn’t really love the dress when I bought it, which sounds silly but I wanted to see if I could push myself out of the round-a-bout of what I usually buy.
Feeling very chuffed with myself right now lol!

  15. That dress looks so lovely on, I wasn’t loving it when you posted the link initially, but I love how you’ve styled it!

I’m currently sitting on about $500 worth of items in my ASOS shopping bag. Ha! It’d be quite the investment in my spring/summer wardrobe!
