If there is one trend I feel comfortable embracing this coming spring/summer it’s colour blocking. I’ve never really liked bold prints, smaller more subtle floral prints yes but I feel like I’m looking at ‘mess’ with prints sometimes.
These pieces aren’t new, but I’ve never actually worn them together before. A common wardrobe tip if you are time/cash poor is to ‘shop your own wardrobe,’ meaning you pull out pieces you haven’t worn for a while and wear them in new ways. These are two really bold colours that I would normally pair back with beige or white but I thought, why not embrace this trend and see if it works for you? Are you trying it this spring of for my northern hemisphere readers did you try it? I think it will need a little more work but it will be interesting to see if I can keep it up!
What I’m wearing:
Dress: Diane Von Furstenberg from Etsy
Cardigan: Woolen vintage number
Heels: Raoul
Satchel: eBay
Glasses: Vinnies
Watch: O’Clock watches

In the second shot you look like a superhero!
Oh, Lady M, I understand completely! I have been the queen of darkness wardrobe wise for as long as I can remember. There is something about colour blocking that has really grabbed me…and I have to say, I think it will be easy to keep up. My first experiment was today, black skirt and singlet underneath, with bright watermelon orange jacket and hot pink shoes – the reaction from my colleagues was amazing, I’ve never experienced such a reaction to a work outfit!!! I’m definitely committed to turning up the colour voltage in my wardrobe now!
wow! Stunning! Definitely trying colour blocking this spring/summer! So pretty

Looks fabulous and great to see the red satchel making another appearance 🙂
Gorgeous. Love a bit of DVF. Some of the most flattering dresses for women. Perhaps I will pull one of mine out for my first day at work on Monday!
Great advice. Pity my wardrobe is full of black though.
@JoJo Styling I agree Melbourne does it in a very trendy way but it is very ‘shades of grey’ isn’t it? I’m guilty of it too!
Hooray for bright colours this Spring! I just made a circle skirt in mustard yellow with a matching headscarf, bit of a colour shock but I’m loving it.
Oooh la laaaa…looking fierce Lady M. You inspire me to wear coloured dresses other than black, grey and other neutrals! Thank you xxx
Super 😉
Gosh that DVF dress is amazing!!!
Gorgeous! And a little bit Superman… =P
Looking an absolute picture of perfection. I am a huge fan (stalker) of DVF. Color blocking is so going to be HUGE and won’t it be a nice change from the melbourne uniform of “black blocking”!! Hope you are having a good week. Jo
I’ve always loved the combo of red with blue/deep purple – mostly because as a vintage lover my nails and lips are often red and lots of my wardrobe is purple and blue haha!
You look awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing what other combos you come up with!
you look awesome….i can’t wait to start colourblocking myself
