CHE Eyewear

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting a Melbourne treasure, CHE Eye-wear on Smith St. The owner Rose can tell you the story and history of every piece in the store which is no mean feat- there are so many glasses vintage, retro and new.

The store includes the largest collection of authentic vintage eyewear from (circa) 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s, to be found in Melbourne. And just in case you were wondering, they provide a complete dispensing service which includes frame repairs, adjustments and are able to process claims directly from all private health funds.

The place is full of quirky details like furniture and glasses that belonged to Roses relatives from by-gone era’s. I think its safe to say that this is one optometrist that you will not forget in a hurry.

Myself with CHE owner Rose. You can email her with enquiries for anything you see in this blog post.

The beautiful interior.

Above and below are current season Sass & Bide.

1970’s and 80s sunnies and specs that are new and unworn.

Wearing a pair of 1960s semi-rimless eye glasses.

These were my absolute favourite pair from the label Saphira. Quite gorgeous!

  1. Your sunglasses look amazing. I have a favourite pair of my own and I see that you repair frames. Unfortunately the arm had broken off my glasses and I am wondering if you are able to fix them for me?
Is that an option for me? They are plastic?? frame with metal hinge which has snapped at the edge of the frame. Pls let me know and I will come in on Friday if you can do them…never know, I might also find another pair that I like in your shop!

  2. Hi lady M, just wanted to know some of the prices of the sunglasses? I love your blog. You have an awesome style. You need to check out Mills market in Newcomb in Geelong. Great vintage clothing!!!!

  3. Gorgeous shades – there seems to be quite a selection to choose from. Lovely pictures.
