My ears: A tribute

Do you know what a Eustachian tube is? Do you know what it does?

I’ll be completely honest, until I came down with my ear infection in Hong Kong now 6 weeks ago I didn’t know I had one. I was completely ignorant to how important this tiny tube is for your ear and sinus function, and in turn your balance.

I decided a while back to quit talking about my health because let’s face it, after a while it’s nothing short of boring. But my right Eustachian tube is still blocked and in turn still causing me all sorts of health related malarkey like dizziness, vertigo, congestion and fatigue. This L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival has all but passed me by, but not to be defeated I was sat at my desk wondering how I could possibly blog about how this has effected me and in turn effected by blogging capabilities, while also being fashion relevant.

So I photographed all my earrings for your viewing pleasure!

Now I’ve done so it’s made me think that I don’t have a diverse enough range or nearly enough colour in there. There are also some pairs that I favour over others, but its not until I collated these images that I realised I often reach for the good ol’ faithful pairs time after time.

Unfortunately none of them are current season anywhere except for the ones of the bottom right hand corner next to the emerald pair. They’re by Melbourne label Edenborough Evans and are current season.

  1. Sorry to hear about your ear trouble, have you tried saline or decongestant nose sprays? They often help decongest the back of the throat, opening up the Eustachian tube, leading to the middle ear space, which then helps you pinch & blow, to relieve the pressure. There is also a special balloon that you inflate using your nose (yes sounds weird, but can help) available at pharmacies called an OtoVent balloon, worth having a look at. Good luck. 2. The sad thing is I did know what a Eustachian tube is – I studied a biology degree (the geek I am I graduated top of my class) and have been obsessed with science since childhood – I was getting electronic kits when other girls were getting dolls 🙂
I am loving the large red button earrings – so ’80’s and so awesome!

  3. I feel your pain. I’ve had a blocked ear for 3 months. But who has time to go to the dr? Sittimg in a waiting room with actual sick people frightens me! I’ll take aliceblus advice though.Thanks.

  4. Inner ear problems are awful. Just in case you have not been advised to do vestibular exercises (cawthorne) or have the Epley manouver at your docs I thought I’d mention it. I had problems from an infection and the exercises worked for me. They do bring on the dizziness but persevere because within a day or so you should improve. As you can’t see into the inner ear it is difficult to diagnose the exact problem so rather than taking medication which can hinder the adjustment process the exercises work!

  6. Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your ear. I really hope you get some relief soon. Nice collection and always interesting to see what others wear. I think my favourites are the silver one below the red, the turquoise and silver circle and the silver wing next to it.
Just realised that if you add a drop pearl to the top pearl one and you pretty much have my early 90’s wedding earings!

  7. Love the emerald pair! Hope you feel better soon.
