Today’s Face: Welcome to a new beauty segment on Lady M!

Today's Face on Lady Melbourne

While I was travelling I decided that I was going to introduce a new, regular segment to Lady Melbourne called ‘Today’s Face.’

I love, love, LOVE beauty and I get asked regularly about what products I used, so I thought to myself, ‘Why not make this a regular feature?’

In this post that will be every Wednesday you are going to find reviews, new products I’ve discovered, what I’m currently wearing, skin and hair care and tutorials on all things beauty related. I can’t wait to start this new segment because as I said, it’s an obsession of mine that I don’t go into too much on the blog but figured after seven years it was about time…right?!

Here goes…

Today's Face on Lady Melbourne

I tried a Lancome BB cream late last year and loved it, so when I visited Sephora I thought I might invest in something new, and perhaps something I couldn’t get my hands on in Melbourne. I tried Smashbox but their bases are yellow and after doing my research I happened upon the brand Tarte. I am now absolutely hooked on the BB tinted treatment 12-hour primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen and would almost give up wearing foundation for it.

In application it is smooth and has a matt finish, but as my skin errs on the oily side of things after about an hour it looks lovely and dewy- no loose powder needed. I love that it has an SPF 30 and primer included as well. At this stage of my makeup application I always put a bit of paw paw ointment on my lips and this one I’m trying is from Natralus. I usually use Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment but this is proving to be a competitive alternative.

While I was away a box arrived from a new Melbourne makeup salon Vivian Ashworth. They sell Beauty is Life products among other things, and in this post I’m trying the Beauty is Life Eyeshadow in Boudoir. It’s lovely and matt and while I haven’t applied it heavily in this look, I think it would build up nicely for a deeper, evening look. The pigment is lovely and strong, just how I like my eye shadows.

I thought it was time I hopped on the NARS bandwagon while I was in New York having avoided it my entire make-up wearing adult life.

I headed straight for their world renowned ‘Orgasm’ blush only to find that it didn’t suit my skin tone, having too much gold as part of its base. Instead, I picked up ‘Sin,’ which is a lovely dusty rose affair and I’ve been wearing it almost everyday since I bought it. The consistency is the perfect blend of pigment and shimmer and I am now well and truly on the aforementioned NARS bandwagon.

Another gift from Vivian Ashworth was the Beauty is Life lipstick in Kingdom which is lovely and creamy and has great staying power.

Other basic beauty tools that are in my makeup bag are L’Oreal Double Extend mascara that I’ve been using for years and years and years. I have tried so many others but always come back to this one. An oldy but a goody in my book!

I bought new brushes from Sephora but left them in New York, so in this post I’ve used this Natio Powder Brush which I would highly recommend for light contouring. It’s excellent quality and comes from a local beauty brand which is even better.

For my eyerbrows I’m using a Sephora crayon, but I have about 5 different brands that I use so you’ll come to see quite a bit in that department!

So there you have it folks, the first installment in what I hope will be many on all things beauty that come across Lady Melbourne’s desk!

  1. I’ve heard great things about NARS lip products, next on my shopping list!

  2. Thanks Jaclyn, I’ll check it out!

  3. Yep, the pigment in this one is great, I can vouch that as long as you prepare your eye lids with a base and a dust of loose powder it will stay on all day. Love it.

  4. No problem Charlene, I’m hoping to get some makeup artists to help me with this one!

  5. No problem Lilo, this week is all about brows, but I’ll work on some hair tutorials 🙂

  6. I love this beauty segments! You’re gorgeous and very talented (:

  7. […] you missed it you can catch last weeks here, otherwise lets crack on with today’s face which is more of a fun, evening […]

  8. Great look Lady M. Love the idea of a regular beauty segment 🙂 Would really like some hair tutes for simple, everyday styles 🙂

  9. you look divine- LOVE the transformation- can’t wait to catch up with you

  10. Hi Phoebe:)
I loved the look, and the eyes look amazing.
Did the color stay on for the entire day?

I have never tried NARS, but i am sure it would be great…

    Have a great day…

  11. Im pretty amatuer with make up and the relevant knowledge. i think it would be great to add in some tips that would almost be common knowledge for most makeup wearers…such as:.how you apply your blush, whats the difference between bb cream and foundation, how u know what colours suit you etc. just a suggestion. Either way im still a fan of this segment

  12. Phoebe, I would love to know if the eye shadow stayed on all day without smudging into your eye lids. You know that awful look if using a low quality pigment eye shadow or suffering from oily skin, the eye lids appear oily and create terribly looking eyeshadow lines.

  13. I also just recently jumped on the NARS bandwagon and am not getting off any time soon. Stila is also another brand espically their lipstick they have a good staying power and minty fresh taste.

  14. Lovely lip color! Looking forward to future segments 🙂

  15. If you like Sin blush I’d highly recommend Douceur! If you’re looking to buy them in Aus but at US prices check out kissandmakeupny.com I’ve used the site heaps and highly recommend their service 🙂

  16. I recommend the MAC 217 brush for blending out your eyeshadow to make it look softer on the edges! Having said this though I am secretly jealous that you can wear such bold colours on your eyes. I have deep set eyes meaning that eyeshadow like this would result in me looking like I have two dark craters for eyes 🙁
Also, welcome to the NARS bandwagon – I recommend their lip products too. Dolce Vita is my go to work lippie for a YLBB look.
