Big Love Monday

What are you grateful for this week?

Today I am grateful for creativity. When I left high school I only applied for two degrees at university: fine art with a major in drawing and journalism. That was it.

I got into fine art and eventually was rejected, and then offered a ‘B’ or second round offer place for journalism. So fine art it was.

When I graduated there were no jobs for artists, they rarely exist. You can move into graphic design, illustration or making gift cards (and watch your soul die a slow death) and so I moved into a completely different area before getting my start in fashion.

When I think back on it now however, those three years of learning how to use the right side of my brain and harness unbridled creativity were really quite amazing. How many young people get to do that? I realise now that the skills I learned went far beyond what job I would get, how well I could type or how much money I could earn.

And for that, I am grateful.

What are you grateful for this week?

  2. Today I am grateful for those who take the time to notice what others are going through. It’s so easy to become self-absorbed and I am grateful for the people who take the time to pop by and see if you’re okay, who perhaps aren’t having the easiest time but are the first to offer you a gentle smile or a kind gesture.

  3. Warm weather and longer daylight hours. Leaving the office sans coat and stockings of an afternoon is so welcome.

  4. Loving books:)

  5. This week I am grateful to be able to celebrate a friends birthday. A small group of girlfriends are going out to dinner where there will be lots of high pitched laughing, talking way too loudly and too fast and maybe even a few tears (most likely from laughing too hard). Girlfriends are definitely worth being grateful for don’t you think?
