Why do we love shoes?
Another new segment that I’m working on is going to be a weekly post about shoes. Because along with jewellery and accessories, they are another part of my wardrobe that I love. I don’t think I’m shoe obsessed, I do own more than the average woman out there but then, it’s my job….right?!
More than just writing blog posts about how wonderful said pair of shoes are, I thought I’d try and understand why we love them so much. I mean, why do we spend so much money on items that can sometimes only be worn once (wedding), may not fit but you buy them anyway (on sale) or that you know are impractical (stilettos that sink into the lawn at a garden party)?
I think I love shoes because I feel they are the completion of what I have chosen to wear for that particular occasion. I even own 4 pairs of runners so that I have options when I exercise. Now that I articulate that, it seems crazy and unnecessary. And part of me knows that it is. Yet, it never really stops me adding shoes to my wardrobe.
Anyhow, I’m on a quest to find out about why we (and I say we because I know I’m not alone!) love shoes so much. Are you coming with me?
Where are these beauties from I hear you ask? Florsheim that’s who.

No matter how much weight you gain or lose, shoes are always there for you!
I always find it hard to put to words what it is about shoes that I love so much. I have a large collection of shoes, and I often get asked “why do you love shoes? What is it about them?” and I’m still not really sure I know why myself, so I look forward to reading this series!
Those shoes are amazing! I was gifted a pair of florsheim sneakers a few years ago (My first & only pair of sneakers) and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes, I love how much padding and support florsheim put into their shoes.
Ooohhh, looking forward to those posts! I am a shoe fan and totally get your four pairs of runners situation. That’s normal right?
Perhaps it is as Toni Collette’s character in In Her Shoes says: “Clothes never look any good… food just makes me fatter… shoes always fit.”
I admit it… I am a shoe-a-holic. Pointed, patterned, tasseled, embellished, satin, suede, patent, strappy, pump, bright, nude, you name it, I will most likely have it. Why? Because shoes make me feel joyful, both from an aesthetic point of view, but also in how they are worn. I walk differently in heels. I feel confident, purposeful, finished…and I love that moment when you stop on the street with another shoe lover to say, ‘Nice shoes!’.
I’m growing to appreciate blog posts with substance, like this one. Whilst I’m curious whether this is a specific Florsheim post or not, I like your ponderings 🙂 For me, I am a shoe person but it doesn’t translate into bulk shoe buying. In fact, I’m such a shoe person with such particular shoe tastes that I can’t actually find that many pairs I like. Probably lucky for my bank balance! 😉

I can’t believe the only comment is from a shoe hater! I adore shoes! (I’ve actually been placed on a show buying ban at the moment…). And boo to them being uncomfortable – that just suggests you’re not buying the right fit or style for your feet. I used to wear uncomfortable shoes but now I’m older and wiser I will only buy shoes if I know they’re going to be comfortable, and I still have quite the collection.
But – to your question…I’m not sure exactly why I love shoes. I think partly they are an easy entry into fashion and they don’t do that thing where they look great on the hanger but look awful on you. They are also just beautifully designed objects in their own right – I often admire a well designed shoe in the same way I would a great chair of piece of dinnerware. Look forward to following along as you explore this topic some more!
I hate shoes! They are so hard to buy, so often hurt and wear out so quickly. Boo to shoes (except joggers because they offer such relief!)
