Would you like to win a $500 wardrobe from To The Max Carlton in time for the Spring Racing Carnival?
I think I can hear a universal ‘YES!’
I do love Melbourne retailers, so when To The Max reached out and said, ‘Let’s work together,’ I thought it sounded like a great idea. I met the team over Brunetti’s coffee and biscotti (the only way to have a meeting in my book) and was taken through their current range.
To The Max is one of the longest standing independent fashion boutiques in Australia, situated on Lygon Street in the heart of Carlton. They pride themselves on stocking the best Australian designers with a sprinkling of must-have labels from overseas.
Since opening their doors in 1991 To The Max has worked closely with brands like Alice McCall, Shakuhachi, Maurie and Eve, Stylestalker, Talulah, Joveeba, Bec and Bridge , Shona Joy to name but a few. They also spend time hunting out new and exciting labels destined to become key designers of the future.
Things always get busy in the run up to the spring racing carnival, so while we talked about how we could work together I casually threw in, ‘What do you think would be an amazing prize for Lady Melbourne readers?’ They came back with, ‘A $500 wardrobe of their choice and the services of the To The Max styling team.’ BOOM.
So over coffee and biscotti this uh-mazing prize was born. I’m beside myself with excitement and I can’t even win it, but that’s because their current range is nothing short of gorgeous.
So what do you have to do to win this prize?
- Visit www.tothemax.com.au
- Choose your favourite item and tell me in the comments section why that would be the basis for your $500 wardrobe.
- That’s it!
Competition closes Thursday 26th September 5pm AEST, winner announced on www.ladymelbourne.com.au

I would have to choose the Bec & Bridge Rising Sun Shift Dress. The print is so fresh and bright and is an amazing piece for this Summer. You can never go wrong wrong with a shift dress either as it is always so flattering!
I would base my outfit around the Cheap Monday Second Skin jeans in Black – Can’t go wrong with a great pair of skinny jeans, then add some other statement pieces!
What an amazing prize! All the items on To the Max are so gorgeous it’s like asking who my favourite child is. I’d have to say Cameo’s ‘Hill Stomp Dress’ wins me over in the end. I LOVE the relaxed-fit look and its rich colours are perfect for the warmer months, day or night, and it’s the sort of the dress that could take me from work straight to afternoon drinks with my girlfriends. Easy to pair with heels or flats, a jacket or a blazer, and versatile enough for any occasion – it’d be my must-have piece this season!
The Rising Sun Shift dress as I’m trying to be bigger, bolder and braver in my Summer outfits and this funky print really fits the bill! I can just imagine it further transformed with bold accessories and some simple knits to really make a statement and stand out from the crowd!
Thanks for the chance 🙂 x

My favourite is the Finders Keepers – Sanctuary Cape in Ivory.
It is chic and understated, super-trendy with the current monochrome craziness, yet elegant and timeless at the same time.
Would wear it at day and at night, with black cigarette pants and hot pink clutch, with silk summer dresses, with jeans and killer high heels. It is a classic with a twist.
I’m a bit in love with the Shona Joy – Panel Bodycon Dress with the coral and pink tones. I have my brother in law’s wedding coming up and the theme being baby pinks, I’d love to wear this!

Dress it down for a lazy brunch,
Like spring flowers, these clothes are a beautiful bunch!
Carrie Bradshaw said it best, “I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my
closet.” But with Finders Keepers new Baxter Playsuit it wouldn’t be in my closet for long, this ultra-chic playsuit would be a constant staple in my summer wardrobe! @jesse_khoo showed us how to look smokin’ while playing it down and Alex Davis proved that this sexy little playsuit is not child’s play; it’s a versatile charmer!

Aloha – Finders Keepers New Baxter would playSuit my upcoming holiday in Hawaii to a tee!
It’s been a challenging year and I’m more than ready to get my groove back with Talulah’s vivacious Electric Pansie dress!
Nobody Cult Jeans – it’ll help me ‘Denim’strate my ‘Flare’ for fashion ‘Jean’ius!
I love love love the Finders Keepers – Mad house long sleeve dress in White,

Versatility complimented with flair!
Have you ever seen a jean that did date?
Hiding my flaws, as one a month I tend to fluctuate!
Lavish 100% leather trim,
Allowing my legs to appear extra slim,
The bold dark shade,
Grants any colour to harmonise and self-assuredly parade,
Silks! Chiffons! Polyesters! Will compliment well,
As you can tell I’m drawn to the stylish “Sass and Bide”
spell!
A favourite true “basis”
you might say,
But I can assure you that I can self-confidently use for
work, fun and play;)
It is an “item” that unfolds a good-feeling vibration,
AND this committed foster-mummy and dedicated wife is
yearning to look like a splendid sensation!
I’d choose the Shona Joy Renegade Bodycon Dress,
I’d base my wardrobe around it,
The little black dress is a must, to impress,
You can’t have a wardrobe without it!
Wow what a beautiful shop, I would love the THE SHANTI BUTTERFLY
Black dress, I think I would get a lot of ware out of it over summer!
Hi Lady Melbourne I would choose the Finders Keepers Sanctuary Cape in Ivory because it would be the perfect layer to throw on at the Cup if the weather turns a bit unpredictable as well as keep the bare skin ratio classy without detracting from the dress! I could also team it with jeans for Saturday night cocktails or a pencil skirt at work.
Xx
Nobody cult jeans. Lady Melbourne, these are the best jeans I have ever owned. I have an awaked body shape and hate shopping for clothes but these jeans made me feel amazing. Unfortunately mine have seen better days and I would love to win the to the max $500 wardrobe so I can wear there magic again
Alice McCall – Zircon Dress as I could wear this to The Melbourne Cup, very flattering and stylish.
Talulah – The Topaz Stone… Simple, stylish and stunning. This would be the basis for my Monochrome Wardrobe
Shona Joy – The Renegade Bodycon Dress – a little black dress with a whole lot of style
Although given the impossible task to choose just one amazing item from to the max right now, I believe the Bec and bridge rising sun shorts are an essential item in my spring and summer wardrobe as the splash of colour is eye catching and fun, it resembles the summer air perfectly. I adore the matching shorts and top combination. I would also love to be able to match this with the Cameo embers skirt and many other items like the Dricoper boyfriend jeans. P.s. would have to loved to have chosen the saints and secrets kaleidoscope blazer! In love with everything from to the max!! Thank youuu 🙂 xx
The ‘Nobody’s Joker knit’ by Sass & Bide because I’m like a magpie and I am automatically and intrinsically drawn to anything sparkly or metallic!
Also, the ribbed texture and high-neck design is very modern and fun.
xx
Shona Joy – a censory mode drape dress
Love love love this dress! Perfect eye catching colour for upcoming spring/summer xx
I would start with Saints + Secrets – Psuedo Swing Dress, this would be my starting point, I can then add on so many accessories to this, I will be able to make a complete outfit.
The Wish – Improvise Coat is to die for! Perfect for the Melbourne weather and perfect for either day or night. I WISH it was mine!
Bless’ed Are The Meek – Contruct Short because I’ll be able to mix it with so many different tops.
MAURIE AND EVE
Maurie and Eve – Heartbeat Pocket Dress – Floral Geo
The pattern on this dress is hypnotising,
For spring racing it would be mesmerising.
The cut, the colour, perfect for me,
A great design from Maurie and Eve.
Congratulations on teaming up with To The Max! And thank you for the giveaway. I looked through what the other lovely ladies would use as their base and I feel rather boring posting my pick. It would be the Cameo – Moss Bodice. I love the cut, I think it would be perfect to show off my shoulders (not that I have the best shoulders, but you know!) and it would work so nicely with my existing wardrobe which is important for me. But to really get outside of my comfort zone I’d probably team the bodice with the Talulah Sing Alive Pants! xoxox
With 2 kids in three years my wardrobe is lacking style, colour & confidence…the Talulah – Mosaic Hues – Mirorred Floral would be a great start in changing that
I would use the Talulah – Mosaic Hues Dress in green as it would be the perfect base to my new $500 spring wardrobe ,The dress is so on trend for this season especially the colour, its Pantone’s colour of the year. The dress is understated so it’s perfect to wear casually with a tan belt and sandals, dressed up with a statement necklace and fabulous shoes for a cocktail party and of course for the racing carnival wearing the dress with a contrasting accesories in a shade of citrus.
Bec & Bridge – Rising Sun Shift Dress – A magical way to celebrate the Australian Summer, the colours straight from the sunrise. The dress represents summer and that is the base of my wardrobe.
White Suede Etch Cut Dress. Loving White Suede’s signature print this season,
and would absolutely love wearing this to a cocktail party wedding coming up!
The Talulah – Love Tones dress would be the PERFECT base to my new $500 wardrobe, because, mostly because, confession…I do not currently own a Little Black Dress.
Shona Joy – A Censory Mode Drape Dress
i love the way it ruffles at the tummy area and the brighter the better
I love the Finders Keepers – Coming Home Long Sleeve Dress. It is a lovely length and would be good if the weather is a bit chill. Great starting point for Derby Day!
The Persuit Jacket in Black by WISH is the perfect piece to base a new wardrobe around. A black blazer goes with everything and as we all know you should ALWAYS have a jacket with you in Melbourne… Especially during Spring!
Bird Of Prey – Panelled Jacket as it would be the perfect jacket to dress up casual jeans
Shona Joy – The Renegade Bodycon Dress, the basis to put some spice back into our relationship
Since having Miss 3 I haven’t brought a dress, I feel very self concious and try to avoid clothes that I feel are going to enhance my new ‘curves’ that to me seem like spare tyres! BUT the Maurie and Eve – Heartbeat Pocket Dress – Floral Geo Dress I would wear with pride. It’s a stunner and the dress would take all the attention, leaving my ‘curves’ unnoticed and wonderful compliments for me. A compliment is verbal sunshine – which would build my confidence again.
Finders Keepers – Same Direction Dress -Black is a must to have so stylish and elegant and perfect for any occasion
Alice McCall – Rutile Dress, I love it! The colour, the length and those shoulders with the print!! I think I may dream about this dress tonight! It would be the perfect dress for Summer evenings out, plus I can wear it to the polo in November!
The Shonna Joy Love Slate Maxi Dress is just perfect for an upcoming winery wedding I’m attending!
Love the Saints and Secrets Blue Haze Dress! Beautiful and fresh for summer. Could be dressed up or down, worn with wedges or sandals. Love the colour and pattern!!

Talulah floral paradise dress in electric pansie, perfection for every Sumer soirée.
I would pick the Cameo – Hill Stomp Dress, definitely a great look for Cup Day, the colours are vibrant and gorgeous. Team this with a little fascinator and it’s good to go!
Premonition – Rude Runner Dress is a perfect basic for my wardrobe because it can be worn in both summer or winter. In summer throw over a cute little denim vest during the day and then add a blazer and some heels for a night out. In winter add some jeans or leggings with a throw over cardigan and your all set. It’s the a great basic that can be used for summer, winter, day or night and essential in my wardrobe!
The Shona Joy – On the Inside Cape Dress epitomises Spring and would be a great basis for a new season wardrobe. Its floaty, feminine, bright, elegant and easily adaptable to a variety of occasions…Perfect!
Finders Keepers Nightlight bodice dress- this dress is stunning and perfect for upcoming weddings and springtime parties etc.
Bec and Bridge Oriental Blossom Skirt. This amazing skirt has all the class and sophistication of a corporate pencil skirt with the sex appeal of the side split. Teamed with killer heels and a floaty blouse it is perfect for a night out with the girls at your favourite cocktail bar. Love it!
Love the Shona Joy – A censory Mode drape dress. A happy colour for the spring and races and green suits me:) What I like about the dress is the drape which adds a feminine touch to the silhouette.
The Talulah – Mosaic Hues – Mirrored Floral dress is absolutely stunning. The colours scream springtime, the cut is edgy yet elegant, and with some killer stilettos and magenta lips I could take this dress from race day to CBD cocktails and any other special occasion that comes my way.
Loving the Talulah – Creative Life Dress in Electric Pansie. Beautiful spray of colour for the Spring races. Just gorgeous!
Love the Cheap Monday- Second Skin Blue Tint jeans, as they are perfect for all seasons and easily accessorised!
Love the Finders Keepers Burning Ground dress, such a statement piece to dress up or down and start me on the path to a sexier wardrobe http://www.tothemax.com.au/finders-keepers-burning-ground-dress-paradise-beach-mono/
Finders Keepers “Coming Home Long Sleeved Dress” …I love a dress that impresses without upstaging my personality, Black and White’s the perfect background to show of my style, classy black heals and I’m elegant, or hot pink…look out world I’m out to shock… whatever my mood this dress would suit me to the max!
Finders Keepers – Mr Jones Dress. This would be the perfect Derby Day dress as it is the traditional black and white but also has a sneaky hint of colour. This dress could be worn with a bright colour popping blazer to for the other race days. Love it!!
Blessed Are The Meek – Panoramic Dress is a stunning dress, teamed up with some killer black heels and a clutch, the perfect outfit.
Talulah – “The Onyx Stone” dress because it is a summer staple with a twist, perfect for dressing up or down with a range of accessories. Perfect for summer living here in North Queensland
I love Shona Joy’s “A Censory Mode Drape Dress”, it’s just the thing to brighten my mood and pull me out of a winter’s slump! I’d wear it with simple heels and a tan clutch.
Shona Joy – Break Of Dawn Maxi Dress. This would be perfect to wear to my daughters wedding. It is stylish and very wearable.
Shona Joy – The Renegade Bodycon Dress – its just gorgeous, and you can never go wrong with Black…
MY favourite is Finders Keepers – Eclipse Sleeve Dress – Gold, because metallic is always on trend, never goes away and always gives you a stunning look. Lovely cut and beautiful details, would love to get that dress for the upcomming holiday season.
My favourite item is the Shona Joy lime drape dress. I am heading to the Caulfield Cup this year, it is my first time going to the races in Melbourne and I would love to stand out in something fun and fresh like this dress. The hard decision would be whether to pair it with white heels or go crazy with a hot pink pair.
Wow what an amazing competition!!! This is easy, the Nostalgia Vest by Saint + Secrets. It’s a great statement piece, that could be worn with some leather shorts, over your basic LBD, or dress it up with some high waisted pants.
Just Love a great vest! And this one leaves an impression.
November + December = parties galore.
The Finders Keepers Same Direction Black dress is very festive, covered in sequins, and I love that it won’t crease being viscose (and doesn’t need ironing either).
On cooler nights it could be teamed with a wrap and stockings..fabulous.
OH yes please! This is an awesome giveaway, LM. Almost as good as those boyfriend jeans you’re wearing (I’m not sure I’ll ever find a pair I can work like that!) The Talulah Mosaic Hues dress in green made me all swoony. I’d wear it with some serious sparkles and let the colour shine.
Definitely Shona Joy’s “A Censory Mode Drape Dress”, perfect for the spring races, with a lovely bright colour and ladylike, elegant drape. Too easy with a pair of nude heels and tailored blazer! Smitten!
I would have to go with the Finders Keepers ‘Let Love Rule’ top. I’m trying to co-ordinate more separates rather than always falling back on a statement dress, also I’m always looking for neutrals that aren’t black, so the navy is perfect. The lace and peplum make it more than just a basic top and it’s versatile so it could be worn for work or play.
I have to say, though, it would be very tempting to choose the ‘Tomorrow’s Bliss’ dress by Talulah – a classic monochrome print is always a winner.
Thanks for the introduction to this excellent store!
I adore the “Shona Joy ~ The RENEGADE Bodycon Dress”…it can be worn all year round, day or night! So many ways to dress it up or down – perfect for the REBEL in me!
It can work at night over an edgy cocktail dress.
It can work just as well during the day – much smarter than a cardigan.
It can instantly upgrade jeans and a white shirt to fabulous.
It’s Bec & Bridge’s BONITA MOTO JACKET for me first!
(And it’s on SALE!)
it is the Impromtu jacket by Wish that I adore, and would wear forever more, over the finders keepers you send me dress I would feel glam for sure.
My fashion destination is definitely the Alice McCall – Mis-Cue dress. The basis for my wardrobe, the colours allowing me to mix a little cardigan, flats or heels from day to evening. Its gorgeous and with spring arriving, very tempting 🙂
In desperate need of new T’s I love the Ksubi – Metal Motif Tee. It will look great with basic jeans, but also fabulous over a skirt, with perhaps a jacket or vest popped over the top.
Love the Alice McCall – Mis-Cue dress. This would add some colour and style to my summer wardrobe.
Oh what fun, a very contented 15 minutes spent browsing their gorgeous collection! It would have to be the Bird of Prey pannelled jacket as I can’t handle wearing leather jackets but have always coveted the crisp, stylish look that they often have or the way that throwing on a jacket automatically makes an outfit look effortlessly done. Love the white panelling contrast!
The Shanti Butterfly Turn It Up Maxi. Beautiful, elegant – that would be my dream wardrobe starter. Someone take my old t-shirts, please,
Without a doubt, the Cameo Hill Stomp dress! My drab wardrobe needs to be set on fire and my fashion sense is begging for some colour! I want to break out of this rut I’m in and just make an entrance….even in the kitchen! This will make me feel so fabulous!
Ksubi High and Waisted Am I Blue jeans – because I have just lost 20kg post-baby and I can’t wait to wear a beautiful sleek pair of jeans again. A definite foundation piece for my wardrobe and a friend for all those beautiful floaty summer tops and cropped jackets…
Alice Mc-Call Mis-cue dress for me – signalling a new season. The skirt of the dress will move beautifully in the breeze as I stride down the pavement! It’ll be the basis of my wardrobe as I change it up with all the blazers I’ve bought.
This post brings back lots of happy memories – I brought my first designer item at To the Max 14 years ago – an ice blue roll kneck angora sweater here whilst studying at Melb Uni!
Finders Keepers Mad House long sleeve dress in white is my fave – fresh, feminine and can go from office to bar. Even if I don’t win I reckon I need to go get it anyway!
I love the Renegade Bodycon Dress. This is such a gorgeous dress and perfect for all the upcoming Christmas parties.
I love the Finders Keepers – Nightlight Maxi Dress. Perfect for any occasion.
The Finders Keepers ‘Tangled Secret’ Dress. I love the print and it is so versatile as it can be worn on it’s own, dressed up with tights or formal trousers and jacket or dressed down with leggings and cardigan.
Lady, I firstly have to tell you about a killer pair of earrings I own. They are stunning! I know you’ll be feeling me when I tell you I call them my ‘New York Earrings’ because I picked them up at the Antiques Garage on W 25th street one Saturday morning whilst living it up in NYC.- Heaven!
The reason I mention this is because I will most likely get arrested if I step out in public wearing only my fabulous earrings, so I need an equally fabulous dress to complete the look. I’m loving the Finders Keepers Nightlight Bodice Dress, and I’m thinking this will be the perfect ensemble for the spring racing carnival this year.
Selecting this dress as the basis of my $500 wardrobe, I would even have enough cash left over to let the styling team funk up my outfit with a jacket and accessories to have me looking as cool as a cucumber.. What a treat that would be!
OK, well here we go.
I have an admission to make. And it’s a little embarrassing.
Some background- I love fashion. I love it. I am practically waiting out the front of my local newsagent on the morning that the new Vogue comes out. I’m obsessed.
It was my birthday yesterday, and I asked my boyfriend to take me out for drinks, I wanted an excuse to dress up. But upon sifting through my wardrobe- again, and again (you know the feeling, when suddenly all of your favorite outfits fail to inspire you?), I found NOTHING. And that is when I realized. It’s fine! I’ll just revert to the ol’ classics.
And here is my admission: I don’t own a Little Black Dress.
It’s crazy, I’ve somehow managed to hit 23 without an LBD.
What’s worse? I didn’t even realize until now! So because of this, I would use the $500 voucher to go back to basics, and buy my first LBD- the Bec & Bridge ‘Christie Peplum Mini Dress’:
http://www.tothemax.com.au/bec-bridge-christie-peplum-mini-dress/
Ok, rant over- now I’m off to hang my head in shame!
Thanks again for the lovely post, Lady Melbs xx
Mmmm so many lovely items, it was hard to choose just one!! But I’d have to say the Finders Keepers – Let Love Rule Top really caught my eye! Perfect for a day at the races but can be worn over and over again…. 🙂
I love the Wilde Willow – Songbird maxi dress. It looks beautiful and summery and I love block colours because im all about accessories and this dress would be very versatile xx
I’d pick the Wish- Dawn Maxi dress. I think it’s really pretty and something I could wear now the weather is warming up. I’m still battling a few post baby bumps and so this would keep me looking stylish. 😉
I pick the Beck& Bridge Gabriella dress. You can wear it alone or with leggings and a jacket. You can wear it all seasons.
I’m going with the Shona Joy dress ( http://www.tothemax.com.au/shona-joy-a-censory-mode-drape-dress/ ) thinking go bold or go home. It’s bright and oh so spring/summer and perfect for a cocktail with the girls or dinner out with the hubby (baby Max hopefully at home with Nannie). I’m getting used to my new body after our son Max so a $500 wardrobe would be perfect right now!
I had to hunt down the dress you’re holding up, the finders keepers you send me dress. A white dress is the upcoming staple both in Australian and overseas collections right now and I adore the sliver of digital print. It would be great for work, or a girls night out!
I am loving the saints and secrets Kaleidoscope blazer. A print statement blazer is such a winner with so many summer ensembles. Mid wash blue skinnies, boots and a black tee to see a band, a black sleeveless dress in need of a warm blazer on a cool summer evening to step out for dinner on a rare date night with my man! I would wear it endlessly… Mandy K
fish.ladder@bigpond.com
I’d pick the Indiana By Freda – Casablanca Printed Blazer. I’m hunting down blazers everywhere I go at the moment and it’s hard to find nice ones. It would be the basis for my wardrobe because I could wear it casually, at work or over a little black dress for wedding season. Yes please!!
