Belsac comes to Melbourne

You fall in love with a bag because of its design and quality, but you love it forever because of its functionality.”

These are the words of Camilla Dalager, creative director for the modern designs of Danish handbag brand, Belsac and it was at an intimate breakfast recently that I got to learn the history of the brand.

With the name appropriately inspired by the French words belle sac (meaning beautiful bag), fashionistas in Australia are clamoring for their luxury collection of beautiful bags.

Bought to the Australian marketplace by North Collective, an agency specialising in Scandinavian fashion and lifestyle brands, this particular collection showcases Belsac’s collaboration with Kopenhagen Fur(KBH FUR), the world’s largest fur auction house.

Through a holistic approach to production, the fur used for the KBH FUR X BELSAC collaboration is provided by the sustainable customary hunting activities of the indigenous Inuit population of Greenland, the only people in the world allowed to hunt and sell seal fur. There’s only limited production and access to the materials used in this unique collaboration.

This is a fascinating brand absolutely worthy of Australia’s attention, if anything because it’s redefining luxury in a mass market environment, with an ethical edge.
