Where ever you are in the world, there are no doubt parts of your city that are so recognizable to you, you only need to catch a glimpse of a street corner or spot the colour of a shopping bag to know exactly what you’re seeing.

David Jones is part of the fabric of how I see Melbourne, having grown up shopping there with Mother Melbourne, well, all my life.

Everyone, it seems, has a story about David Jones. This iconic department store began in 1838 when maverick retailer David Jones threw open the doors of his first shop in Sydney.

Their new SS 13 season is about to launch and this season sees Jessica Goames takes over at the helm of fashion ambassador having recently fronted a runway show for the iconic store that was streamed live on the internet.

Major change saw the deviation from a designer opening the show, replaced by the white-on-white trend, as 14 looks in white from a selection of designers created maximum impact.

Monochromatic black and white featured strongly alongside the elegance of Parisian chic, modern sport luxe silhouettes and relaxed nautical stylings and this is what you can expect to see this coming SS 13 in store and no doubt on the streets.

David Jones is synonymous with style and progress, this year celebrating 175 years in business. It champions top designers, brought French high fashion to post-war Australia with Dior and Balmain, and has pioneered many advances in retail from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first.

So to celebrate the launch of SS 13 and this incredible retail feat, David Jones are giving you the chance to win this fabulous prize pack. It includes:

  • David Jones: 175 Years, this stunning book features fashion images and treasures from the store’s archives, photographs from Max Dupain’s private collection and original sketches by Norman Hartnell, dressmaker to the Queen.
  • A $50 David Jones Gift Card
  • David Jones Limited Edition Tote Bag
  • Samantha Wills Earrings

To be in the running all you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post telling me which trend from their SS 13 range you’d like to rock. Competition closes 5pm AEST September 8th. Australian residents only.

  2. Parisian Chic 🙂

  3. Parisian chic..all elegance and utterly svelt

  4. Monochromatic is hints of yesteryear, striking and dramatic!

  5. White on White is the “standout” choice with a Summer tan. It packs impact with French Rivera cool. When everyone else is wilting in the heat, I’ll feel and look eternally fresh with textural interest from delicate lace, a slinky silhouette or floaty fabrics.

  6. Parisian Chic so I can pretend I’m chic….and in Paris…

  7. I love the ‘Sugar Baby’ looks! So much fun for summer 🙂

  8. The Parisian Chic, it’s the elegance and sophistication that I really love.

  9. Think I’ll go Parisian chic, see if that can help me look a bit more elegant than the old jeans.

  17. Any of them. The only things I usually rock are the ones I trip over daily being my clumsy self!

  18. Monochromatic is perfect to combine funky bold colours and defined lines

  19. Parisian Chic I think sets the trend, beautiful pieces that I would love to wear.

  20. Move over, neon & floral trends, this season I want to be bold & beautiful in Monochromatic black and white. Beetlejuice stripes, geometric prints, or polka dots, there are so many to choose from. David Jones has, no doubt, got a wide range of monochrome pieces from the finest Australian and International designers.

  21. The Classic LCD (Little Coloured Dess). One can never be over-dressed or under-dressed with a Little Coloured Dress. Meaning whatever social situation I would come across this spring and summer, I would be well prepared to rock it!

  22. Quintessential!

This “bold” trend is no doubt influential,

    “Print Perfection”,

A gusto of colour appeals in the SS 13 collection!

The prints reflect my “cheerful” self,

The “Ping Pong Pant” and “Eden Blouse” is guaranteed to walk off the shelf!

    Colour I appreciate
    and embrace,

There’s a few “MUST HAVE” items I’d love to own before the
    BIG race!

A helping hand will go a long way,

So I look seamlessly “awe-inspiring” on Melbourne Cup Day!

  43. I’m loving the black and white and nautical trends. Though I think this coming season I’d like to do, or try to do 😉 white on white a little more. The Diavolina Dell Pump with Acetate Heel is quite high on my shopping list too!

  44. For me it would have to be modern sport luxe. A mix of effortless, comfortable, practical and stylish. I would like to rock a great pair of pants, teamed with a classic t, a quilted leather bomber vest, and a pair of high top wedge sneakers. Clean and simple, just the way I like it.

  45. Monochromatic black and white = timeless classic. A perennial favourite that’s chic and so versatile. It’s apart of my wardrobe staple.

  67. Parisian chic!

  68. White-on-white. White scares me as a head-to-toe option because I’m so fair myself I am always worried I will look like a ghost. I’m working up the courage to try it this summer.

  69. Adore the Caged Peony Dress. It’s conservative enough for me but has great style and flair. I could rock this look!

  73. I really want to give the white-on-white trend a go this summer, it’s so fresh and breezy I imagine it would be fantastic on a a 30+ degree day! The only problem is I can be messy so it may not stay white for very long…

  74. Something off topic maybe..but the flowers are gorgeous 🙂

  75. Monochrome, magnificent! Classic black and white, always chic, always in style, very David Jones!

Aside from that, dreaming of moving to Mexico with a wardrobe full of Camilla kaftans!

  76. Label Love. Collette by Collette Dinnigan. Feminine, beautiful dresses and most importantly affordable! I can’t wait to get in to have a look!
