Lady Melbourne having coffee in Melbourne

If you’ve not been to Melbourne, you might have heard a thing or two about the city: we love black and we love coffee.
It’s not an unusual observation for visitors to remark on the sea of black clothing walking down Collins Street.

I can only put it down to the climate here, because I don’t think it belies a dark history or gothic sentiment.

Rather you find yourself layering (black goes with everything) on account of the ‘four-seasons-in-one-day’ weather.

Anyway, that wasn’t the actual point of this blog post, but when I saw the pictures I thought to myself, ‘what a cliché!’

With the opening of The Emporium building in the CBD, Melbourne’s seen an amazing selection of international and Australian retailers open their doors.

Glue Store is one of them & it was there I picked up this Camilla & Marc sweater and slick Lee jeans on a visit last week to check out the store. There’s a denim specialist who will tailor your jeans on the spot, a cafe with Wi-Fi, a DJ and dedicated women’s and men’s floors. Phew!

Suffice to say I was there for a while, but hey, it’s my job to do the recon for you isn’t it?!

What I’m wearing:
Heels: Clarks
Jeans:Glue Store Emporium
Glasses: Gucci from Vision Direct

  1. I hate that everyone wears black here!! It means that I stick out like a sore thumb when I’m donning my usual orange or green outfit. Love this post though and that cafe looks fab, where is it??

  2. When I was younger, I loved wearing black, it was only as I got older I started embracing colour. I’m moving to Melbourne in under 2 months and I’ve wondering if the black is going to take over my wardrobe again 😛

  3. Hey Lady Melbourne! ;D
My journalism tutor Josie Vine recommended I check out your site during my first year. I’m an avid reading, first time commentor.
I wanted to thank you for the Glue emporium tip, I had no idea they tailored jeans on site, will most definitely be checking that out! #shortgirlproblems

Do you have any suggestions as to where to intern if I want to eventually work in fashion journalism? I’ve been researching and it just confirmed what I already knew, most of that industry is interstate. I’m becoming quite disheartened.

Thanks Paige love your daring style.
    Much love Catherine.

  4. Thank you 🙂

  5. How cool! I think we’re pretty friendly here 🙂

  6. Oh I know, and try as I might, I can’t escape it! *mustbesomethinginthewater*

  7. Hey Linn!

I have always used an Australian website to help me-

You can do a search for specific items, or if you scroll down there’s a list of categories. It’s my go-to if I ever need technical help!

Just a quick question…are you good at coding?
I am trying to learn HTML/CSS ..do you know of any good learning sites?

    Thanks and kind regards.

  10. So accurate… I didn’t really realise the pervasiveness of black outfits until I lived overseas for a year and then returned to Melbourne mid-winter. So much black! My partner is “boycotting” black because of it… he bought a bright orange winter coat this year instead – what a rebel 😛
