Where to shop in Melbourne: The Vintage Shed Tyabb

The Vintage Shed Tyabb

The Vintage Shed in Tyabb on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula might seem a little bit out of the remit of ‘Melbourne’ but boy is it worth the drive! I’ve been a regular visitor for around eight years now and have found everything from an orange juice press from Pakistan to door handles and even a couch. The clothing goes without saying, as does the sheer amount of bric-a-brac.

If you love the thrill of finding something you didn’t know you were looking for, The Vintage Shed in Tyabb is the kind of place that deserves an entire afternoon. Spread across more than 60 curated stalls, it feels less like an antique shop and more like a vintage department store — a treasure trove of furniture, homewares, art, clothing and curious objects from decades past.

There’s a wonderfully eclectic mix here: Art Deco pieces sit alongside industrial finds, pre-loved clothing, old-school toys, framed art, nautical objects, retro homewares and the sort of wonderfully random treasures that are impossible to replicate in a conventional shop. It is also a fantastic resource if you’re looking for props, furniture or wardrobe pieces to recreate the look of another era, with plenty of inspiration from the 1940s through to the 1970s.

And then there’s Seeking Vintage, the Vintage Shed’s smaller sister store directly across the road. More tightly curated, it specialises in vinyl, farmhouse antiques, vintage tools and curios, Mid-Century and Scandinavian pieces, fashion and accessories, coastal and boho finds, plus a dedicated vintage garden room.

The best part? You never quite know what you’re going to find — which is, of course, the whole point.
