Mother Melbourne has such sensitive skin that she uses Johnsons Baby shampoo, washes her face with water and moisturises with Nivea. She has beautiful skin, and that’s the example I was given growing up. Skin care doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, you just have to find products that work for you.
Added to that:
No smoking
Drink plenty of water
No sun baking
Plenty of exercise
I won’t get all holier than thou on you because I have broken every rule above over the years(yes, every rule!), but I do live by them now and it has improved my skin 10 fold.
Ok, here we go!
STEP 1: Weekly Exfoliation
I use a product by the skin care range ‘Uber’ called Pure Gel Exfoliant. I also use a product called Delclear that is the same, just a different brand. There are no granules, it’s a gel that works in a similar fashion to micro-dermabrasion. Once a week is all you need, you will quickly see after massaging it into your skin the dead skin slough off. I wouldn’t do this every day!
STEP 2: Twice daily face wash
I developed oily skin when I was about 11, and had acne well into my teens and beyond. Hard to believe but it’s true and I suffered with it for many years.
I discovered Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Face Wash when I was 16 and I’ve used it ever since. Although I don’t have acne now, it still works for my skin and I use it in the morning, and to take my makeup off at night before bed.
STEP 3: Vitamin E oil to combat ageing

After washing my face I dab on Invite E pure vitamin E oil just under my eyes. You don’t need much as it’s highly concentrated.
STEP 4: 30+ Moisturiser everyday

I do not leave the house without 30+ on my face. I repeat, I DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE! I can’t stress how important using a moisturiser with 30+ minimum is to protect your skin from sun damage, the risk of skin cancer, not to mention as an anti-ageing device. I use either Hamilton or Olay Complete Defence 30+ moisturiser.
And finally……my face!
Here it is, no makeup, no photoshop. This is what my face looks like everyday before I apply any make up.
I hope this answers some of your questions on my beauty regime, really I just use 3 products daily on my skin, and the exfoliation gel weekly. That’s it!

Totally agree…basic skin care is the best! I generally recommend cetaphil or neutrogena extra gentle as a cleanser. Hamilton’s everyday as you suggested as the sunscreen of choice. Some patients prefer Megan Gale invisible zinc.
You look brilliant without makeup! You look so healthy. My skin is fine, I just look like a washed-out beast without it. Jealous!
Hi Lady M, where do you buy the Uber pure gel exfoliant from, the website didn’t work for me.
thank you!
Bethany- simple I think is being kindest to your skin too I think.
Rusty Hoe- Ah Nan, all good skin advice comes from Nan doesn’t it?!
chon- what a nightmare, you poor thing!! Thats why I steer clear of facials. I hope you didn’t come out of there too poor?
Dressed and Eaten- mmm, see how you go, it works well for me.
Sammy- pleasure treasure!
Chantelle- yep thats why I use it- I have oily skin so I can’t stand anything that leaves a residue or is oily.
Nina- and so easy to do as well!
Kate Junior- try two when you get out of bed in the morning, one for morning tea and one at lunch. Thats half already down 🙂
Great post! Very informative!
I have been known to wear 50+ sunscreen in the summer! But I struggle to make the eight glasses of water a day! Will try harder!!
Your skin is outrageously divine. Good for you. I am a non-sun bunny too. So important xox
I need to do the exfoliation once a week, I think that’s a great tip.
And I’m bad – I hate sunscreen. Is the Olay one nice though? I find they usually feel oily and dirty…
Your skin is fantastic! Thanks for the advice 🙂
You have lovely skin. I’m also a firm believer in simple skin routines. I’ve been looking out for an eye product. I’m getting to that age where I need to think about that. Shall try the vitamin E oil you’ve recommended. Thanks!
I have a very simple skin care routine and when I went to have a facial not that long ago I was blasted for not using all of the products. I told her that I was lucky I had nice skin and when she went to perform my facial she said in a super nasty tone “well lets have a look at this perfect skin”. It went down hill from there and then she tried to make me buy her products!!! I think simple is best! I have a daily cleanser wash in the morning and I generally use my oil of olay with spf and then a tinted moisteruiser as well with a spf!! I used to use the vitamin e casules and pierce them and then spread under my eyes. Because i wear contact lenses i have found that my skin does get damaged there!
After a long trial and error process, I use apple and almond L’Occitane products. They’re not heavy and leave my skin fresh and light. Plus a shea butter concentrate under my eyes which is like magic to my 37 yr old skin. I’m not very regular with it all but I think it doesn’t pay to be overly religious about it all. Simplest of all is the sun issue. My nan never went out in the sun uncovered and even when she passed in her 90s had better skin than many women 20yrs her junior. Hardly wrinkled and super soft. I’m taking a leaf out of her book.
I completely support simple skin care routines. Using just water and moisturizing cream when needed is very popular amongst health nuts!
