I posted a rather blurry photo of this DIVINE bag I purchased recently but here it is in living colour. I’ve seen Cambridge Satchel Company bags on blogs the world over, but as I wasn’t able to get my hands on one to see before I bought it I thought I’d get this one which is still made in England and 100% leather, just a little bit cheaper. It’s from Bags In Style on eBay and has exceeded all my expectations.
Except for one thing.
It smells like fish food. No joke! The longer it’s been out of the packaging the better it’s getting, but when I first opened the plastic wrapping I thought ‘Holy Moses!’ I generally only purchase leather accessories so am used to the smell, I wonder whether this has to do with the dye used perhaps? Anyhow, it’s kind of oddly humorous and I’m just hoping now that like I said, the longer it’s used and ‘aired’ the better it will smell.

This outfit is super cute, and I love the bag and how it is the only thing with bold color. It’s too bad about the smell. Hopefully it will fade fast.
the bag is really nice, hope you will find a way to get rid of that smell
Hair looks lovely!
I bought a maroon satchel very similar to this one about 2 months ago and i had the exact same problem. it smelt like fish. I tried everything to get it out (even took it back and got a new one) but that one was just a pongy. In the end I just had to deal with it. but I think it’s finally gone now. or maybe I’m just used to it.
Oh I love the bag. Looks a bit like school bag 🙂
Ooo, the kitty litter idea is a good one!
You should probably store this one with cedar balls (like moth balls but smell nicer and are made of wood) or maybe some Lavendar satchets?
Still lovely
Love your bag and shoes

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I might try the bi-carb over kitty litter first (!) but will let you know either way.
I take all my own photos unless otherwise stated, all the info you need is on the FAQ page.

Have you thought of that odour absorbing kitty litter? Pack some in the bag and it should absorb the odour. Just change it a few times. I’ve found that’s worked with shoes. Baking soda is also always a a great option for odour absorption
It’s such a cute bag you need to wear it, hope you can find a way to cure the smell issue..
Aw, Lady M, I have been eyeing off these satchels and I am so very jealous that you have one in your possession!
Perfect colour choice too, bravo.
xo, Lisa.
Hi Lady! the smell is probably due to how the leather has been treated. I bought a couple of beautiful handbags in Morocco nearly two years ago and they smelled awful and after months of airing they still stank and were relegated to the back of a box in my garage somewhere. You may be able to save your beautiful bag however! Check out this website for some tips… http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf45754933.tip.html
Fish food..weird. BEcause I thought my leather boots were alone with this affliction. When I first bought them they too smelt like fish food. Over time and a few scrubs with leather cleaner it has faded…
die??? maybe something did die whilst making the bag hence the pong! xoxox
