”I wanted to be rare, I wanted to be noticed, I wanted to be exotic as a Cotton Club chorus girl, and I wanted to be obvious as the most flamboyant hooker on the street. I just wanted to be.”
Etta James was a force to be reckoned with in every aspect of her life, but what a gift she left the world in her music. RIP, Etta James.

Vale Etta! I saw her about three years ago at The Blue Note and, sadly, she was showing every bit of her many years of hard living – but it was wonderful to see such a great artist. Thanks for running this, Lady M. Love you, Etta! (And Nina Simone. So great and also so gone, but their recordings will live on)
Love Nina Simone:)
Have a great week
Such a loss. I discovered Etta and Nina Simone in Yr 11 (an eternity ago) which led me to discover the joy of the jazz and blues greats. Strong women, with kickarse voices and style.
