So many random and new things come across my desk and not all of them make it to the blog. I’ve sort of started a regular post called ‘Random New Things’ of, well, exactly that!
Here goes…
So how amazing is this cuff? How much more amazing is it now I’ve told you that it cost me $10 and there are 3 more? My secret Turkish jewellery and ceramic shop ‘Ottoman Treasures’ has just got them in. They don’t have a website, it’s cash only but well worth the trip down Sydney Rd. Ottoman Treasures from Turkey: 385 Sydney Rd Brunswick VIC 3056 Ph: (+613) 9388 8400
I bought these two darling blue and white china boxes at Savers also on Sydney Rd and just down from Ottoman Treasures. Here is the conversation I had at the checkout:
Me: “Hi! Can you tell me the correct price for these boxes? One has $8 on it and ‘ x 2′ and one has $4. Does that mean it’s $8 for both of them and $4 a piece? I’m assuming they’re a pair.’
Sales Assistant (SA): “Oh no, the ‘x 2’ means the lid and box. It’s $4 if I sell them separately.”
Me: “Sorry?”
SA: “The ‘x 2′ means the two pieces. So if you want the lid it’s $4.’
Me: “Why would I buy the lid? It’s a box. A box has a lid, it’s not a box if I buy them separately.”
SA: “No I think you’re wrong. I’ll get the manager.”
In the end they sold them to me for $4 a box so I can’t complain, even though one of the managers said it should be sold to me for $4 for both as they have to give it to me at the lowest advertised price. I have never in my life been told that I had to pay separately for the box and the lid. Suffice to say she looked REALLY confused.
Irish designer Orla Kiely (how beautiful is the name Orla?) has a range out for Apple at the moment and this is the Printed Acorn Print 13″ Laptop Case. It was sent to me all the way from the UK and I just love it. I’m planning on taking it to New York with me and I think it’s going to travel really well because of the sturdy leather details and the laminated, quilted lining….in case I spill my chardonnay mid flight. Which is a distinct possibility.
There is an entire range in this acorn print including a Mac Book Air 11″ sleeve and a tote bag which I think would be fabulous for carting around my camera. Check out OrlaKiely.com
This necklace also came to me from the UK and is by the designer Jennifer Loiselle. It’s the ‘Clemence’ necklace in pink/orange and is available to buy from Boticca.com. I’m planning on wearing it to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in May, and of course it will be coming with me to New York!
I’m wearing it with this woollen, black and silver lurex, vintage dress I picked up at Savers for $12. It’s still way to hot to wear it but I don’t mind bagging a winter bargain when the weather is still warm and putting it away for winter.
This necklace is also from Ottoman Treasures and cost a mere $29. See above for details, the feather was a gift from The Gardener as mentioned in this post.
Also purchased at Savers: This boater for $4. I love it even more because of that simple fact!

So much to love in this post. Love the idea of this being a regular post. Love love love the laptop case. And the dress – I think I had one very similar many moons ago!
Hahaha what a funny story about the boxes. They are so lovely and at $4 each, you were very lucky.
Adore the cuff but in love with the black woolen vintage dress. Just beautiful. Fabulous find.
