Autumn to Winter in Melbourne

indy

We are having a very long autumn here in Melbourne- not that I’m complaining about it!- so it means that I’m still yet to bust out the ankle boots, jackets and coats.

I figured that this outfit, which is a sort of every day look for me will work well trans-seasonally in that I could quite easily add a pair of ankle books, a gillet (see picture below) and a scarf.

For anyone who has visited Melbourne knows, we more often than not have four seasons in one day. Most visitors don’t believe it, until they get here of course and realise that you can wake up in the morning to pouring rain and grey skies, only for it to clear by 11am to sunshine, then back to grey and high winds in the afternoon, only for the sun to come out again before a thunderstorm.

It’s true, and that’s why they say Melbourne has such a distinctive ‘look’ fashion wise. People tend to layer more because you simply end up taking off and putting on clothes all day long. In these photos I’m wearing three layers, but into winter I would probably add another two for warmth.

It sounds kind of crazy now I have articulated it, but in a funny way you just sort of, get used to the frenetic weather and thusly adjust your wardrobe to cope.

The upside? You simply have more of everything, which really doesn’t phase me one bit!

What I’m wearing:

Leather jacket: Siricco
Breton top: Zara
Top: Sussan
Leggings/pants: Indy C

Necklace: Indy C
Sunnies: They were a gift with purchase
Heels: Therapy
Clutch: Feathers

My custom manicure as done at Miss Fox. Sarah mixed artistic colours ‘Foxy,’ ‘Majestic,’ and ‘Fashionista,’ to get this deep ox-blood colour. I love that they will custom mix colours to get a colour that is exact and just for you. And I do like my nail colours exact!Autumn to Winter in Melbourne

For winter I’d probably add these types of items:

  1. […] travelled half way around the world however from a city where you can literally have four seasons in a day, there has been an adjustment period while I’m here. You can leave the house wearing the same […]

  2. Love this look and great advise on how you can move through the seasons easily still utilising similar pieces in your wardrobe. You look great.

  3. Hi lady melbourne! Love the outfit and its so true about melbourne weather! I was just wondering which siricco leather jacket your wearing it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for !?

  4. hmmm know what u mean lady melbourne, i used to live in bendigo & when we moved to queensland it took me a few years to get out of the habit of taking a jumper or cardi with me everywhere thru summer!!
& love how ur nails perfectly match ur pants 🙂

  5. I was in Melbourne for New Years 3 years ago now. I got up in the morning, was fine in pants, a blouse and jumper. By 11.00am, I had to go and buy a big coat. Then by about 2.00pm, the weather cleared up and I was just in my blouse and pants. Night was cold and rainy again.

The next day it was 40 degrees and windy.

It was NUTS! For someone who lives in a mild temperature year round, I was baffled by the weather in Melbourne. I have packed more strategically for all other trips to Melbourne since then 🙂
